Probably the best place to stay in Matera
Posted 16 Aug 2020 on HotelsReally nice, welcoming place. Very well-located for the centre of Matera (a short walk), free parking - probably *the* best hotel to stay in when visiting Matera. Loses 'full marks' since the air-conditioning (clima) appeared ineffective, and the shower was very difficult to use without getting water all over the rest of the bathroom.

Lovely hotel, sadly when I wanted a swim the pool hadn't been clean for a while so had quite a few dead insects in it. I didn't go in. The rest of it was lovely.

Nice quiet property with pool
Posted 9 Sep 2015 on HotelsGreat staff, room a little dark, didn't like having to pay for towels given the overall price we paid was quite high. Quiet neighbourhood 10 mins walk uphill from town.

Fabulous choice to visit Matera
Posted 1 Aug 2015We primarily chose Relais Ridola for easy access to Matera. We visited Matera 3 years ago and stayed further out of town. Parking can be a nightmare and why waste your day worrying about that?!!
Not only were we made to feel welcome but the warmth of hospitality from every member of staff continued throughout our stay. Clean. Air conditioned (35 deg outdide). Good Italian style buffet breakfast. Welcome swimming pool. Well worth it!

Nice,comfortable

Pros: 4 stars deserved. Clean.
Cons: See above.
Location: See above.
Hotels staff spoke passable to good English, The lobby was "efficient"; the breakfast area was plastic tables in the lobby. The breakfast was OK--no frittatas.
The room was adequate size. The airconditioning was in the floor. On a hot day the lack of fan circulation was noticeable. There was plastic or rubber mattress cover that made sleeping hot.
The location is on a street with apartment buildings. The parking is easy and is secured at night. It is only about 600 meters from the piazza, but it is a steep climb up and down. There is almost no parking near the piazza.l

Lovely Hotel

Pros: Small friendly hotel with lovely helpful staff. Nice breakfasts and has a swimming pool to relax in.
Cons: The only thing we can think of is there were no English speaking television programmes available.
Location: Quiet location, about 15 minute walk from centre. Churches, museums, cave dwellings, and lovely views. Lots of interesting walks.
We enjoyed our stay in Matera very much, lots of lovely restaurants and gelaterias to sample.

Okay before a visit to Matera
Posted 3 Oct 2013 on HotelsStaff were good, but it was more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel. Its part of a house, converted some years back, and on the edge of a housing estate. It is easy to walk into Matera but out of season (Sept) think I should have tried for central. Beds and linen were great, but breakfast was poor, not good value overall. However, if you want to park easily without hassle I would recommend.

Great hotel: room, pool, and service all very good
Posted 23 Jun 2011 on HotelsThis is a great hotel - we really enjoyed our stay. Our room had character as well as being very clean and comfortable. The grounds are very nice, particularly the pool. The service was great throughout - very helpful staff who made us very welcome. The only (very slight) downside is the location - it was a 15 min walk into town but for this you get peace and quiet. Highly recommended.
