Well ot wasnt really as the picture i had seen made it to look like but it was nice. Clean rooms amd beds, overall a satifactory enviroment

Unsatisactory service

I made an online booking and confirmed a week later regarding my booking. To my surprise when I came to check in I had to pay an additional R165. We got key to the rooms they had allocated for us and when out for a few minutes when we came back with my sister and friend, my sister who was allocated in a ladies room found that they put in males with her in the same room - in a guys room we were mixed with smoking and drinking guys. This was indeed a bad experience. My sister was given another room it had extra beds we then decided to sleep there. When we checked out we were told we have to pay an extra R195 because the room is expensive. They didn't even apologize for the inconvenience caused. What I know is that we'll never use the place again and don't recommend it to anyone. The blankets were old on smelly, though the sheets were clean and showers not bad. But still.

Hi Emmanuel, we'd like to firstly apologise for your unsatisfactory experience at Urban Backpackers we pride ourselves in providing great hospitality. According to your booking you'd reserved a single bed in a mixed dormitory, thus the additional amount when you checked in with an additional person. We try our best to monitor drinking and smoking in rooms but can't really search guests for booze when they check-in. The 4-Bed Dormitory your sister was reallocated to costs R195, yes it would've been better to not charge you an additional amount to make up for inconvinience.If you can please send us proof that you were charged an additional R195 instead of difference we're willing to refund it. Lastly, there's no reason why we'd check a male into a female dorm, even when all rooms are fully booked we don't allow it. We apologize again for that, it was a case of oversight from our staff who claim they trying to accomodate a gay guest who is a friendly regular. So her safety was considered. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Johannesburg, please visit our Cafe (Kafe Noir) for a free meal and drink next time you're around.

Perfect for a low budget

Super kind staff. Of course the neibougrhood is creepy and dangerous but it’s the same everywhere is joburg. Door basics but enought for a low budget. Kitchen could have a little bit more accessorie
