Quiet in central Marrakesh

Posted 10 Mar 2018
Take the riad offer of transfer from airport cos you'll never find it on your own but well placed near the northern souks and the Secret Garden. Food is ace, both breakfast and evening meal if needed. Roof terrace for breakfast with broad view of High Atlas. Staff capable in at least 4 languages and dead helpful and friendly. Bed very comfortable.

Nice niche hotel in the center of everything

Posted 15 Jan 2018
Upon arriving we were welcomed by Bashir who is extremely helpful and easy to talk to. He ran through the itenary and gave recommendations for anything I left out. At any point when we needed something Bashir and the others were more than happy to help, and when I told them my girlfriend was celebrating her birthday on one of the days they decorated the room for when we arrived from our dinner. The breakfast was also amazing and held us for a good few hours, and on one occasion they served it an hour before the breakfast period as we had an excursion booked before.

Perfect little place

Le Coq was a perfect place for my short 3 night stay in Marrakesh. Was like a little heaven the moment you step out of the chaos outside. Very silent and comfortable. Rooms very clean and so much attention put into creating the space. Lots of areas for chilling, and lovely rooftop for lying around and eating breakfast. Staff super helpful and friendly. Very available and happy to answer any enquiries. Nice email sent prior to arrival that provided instructions for getting there. Massage in-house was cheap (23€) and relaxing, though could have been firmer. Taxi from station: I expected to be ripped off, but it's always so tedious to go through the hassle. Don't follow the directions to "taxi" stand in the train station, you will be told something crazy like 100MAD. Instead, go directly opposite to that sign and exit the other side. You will see locals trying to hail taxis there. Then cross the road to other side as that's the direction they need to drive. Stand there, possibly with other locals, and keep yelling "Riad Larousse" into whoever stops to ask where everyone wants to go. Ask how much, negotiate if you need to, and get on. I was so lucky, the guy who picked me up didn't bother to try rip me off and just said 20MAD straight up. Taxis are shared, so it's likely you'll get on with others going in same direction, this is fine, and probably cheaper. It's a few minutes walk once you get off taxi. And within good walking distance to everywhere you will want to visit.

Helpful friendly staff

Pros: It is a quite oasis away from the chaos of Marrakech. Brilliant roof terrace.
Cons: The room was a little bit cold at night, but hey provided extra blankets and a heater.
Location: Location is great, easy walk to main square and the souks.
Bachir and Abdul were really helpful, they helped to organise a massage, a guide for the souks and our bus to Essaouira.

Le coq berbere

Posted 8 Feb 2015
Although this riad is fairly close to all main attractions and restaurants I would not recommend it. It is very difficult to find as it is in the middle of a souk market, it is very cold when out of season as there is no roof on the building and although there is a air conditioner with a heat setting it is ineffective. The staff are pleasent but always looking to make a buck! I was overcharged on my excursions booked through the riad compared to people at other hotels on the same trip, and on paying my bill the currency conversion was rounded up to the nearest whole number which meant I paid more then was quoted by Expedia. The building is safe and quiet but there are better more comfortable riads out there.

Riad Coq Berbere

Posted 12 Aug 2011 on Hotels
We were collected from the airport by a transfer organised with the hotel via email. 15euros a little pricey but at the time we were arriving and given where the riad is we were glad we booked it. The driver called the riad and a man came to meet us (Bachir was his name) he led us to the riad and once we had avoided all the mad Marrakech mopeds and disappeared up an alley and down another one we were in our tranquil haven. This is a beautiful riad and I would highly recommend it, I wish they had made the plunge pool a bit bigger as there is room there to do so. The roof terrace is lovely. Breakfasts and pretty good too, yoghurts, pancakes, cakes and bread with jams etc, tea, coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. Close to the main square but pay attention to where you are going to ensure you take the right route home again! Bachir will give you a map and inform you well, he also gives you a card with his number on just in case you need any help.
