Our experience of the staff was inconsistent, check-in was fairly lack lustre and no explanation of facilities, dining options or card service was given. Couldn't find bar staff. However the concierge was really helpful. Communal rooms were lovely but the bedrooms were old and tired. ( We had to switch rooms) Even in the upgraded room the shower was broken, TV old and kept switching off, chipped paintwork and a hole in the back of the bathroom door. disappointing for a 4 star. Location is excellent, but they don't have to work on that!

Beautiful hotel, legendary and unmatched for location. Rooms are well kept and clean. Reception and concierge exceptional - bar area hit or miss on service. Drinks are fine.

Such a great location totally spoilt by a very tired and overpriced hotel. Go to the Travelodge the rooms are far better!

The general facilities were cramped and gloomy, with the layout again cramped and complicated having grown like topsy with too many stairs. The situation was redeemed by room 91 which was clean, comfortable, airy and with an hypnotic view over the weir. The staffing at reception/ concierge was excellent and most helpful. The staff in the dining room (dinner) were pushy and more interested in being given favourable reviews than in giving a good service. We only dined once as a consequence. Sorry! Had the overall feeling of an airport hotel.

Underwhelming

Location was good, everything else was average at best and below-par in terms of cleanliness. Hotel is tired and dated and being asked to pay extra at breakfast if you want something different like avocado, eggs benedict or even a different coffee is just strange. Drinks are very expensive as well - £16 for a glass of wine with a 12.5% service charge on top is excessive.
