Overall I don’t know that I recommend this hotel. First, the good: the entire staff was super friendly and accommodating, it was easy and reasonably priced to book a private taxi through the hotel for day trips, and the breakfast buffet was really good. The bad: it was next to impossible to get any sleep during our three night stay. The walls are paper thin so you hear everything next to and above you. It’s also located on a busy street and next to train tracks (with constant honking by both until late at night and beginning before sunrise), as well as located next to a middle school. I’m not sure if it was due to a holiday or special event, but we were awakened by scores of children on microphones, shouting, and playing instruments beginning at 8am. If you are anything short of a very heavy sleeper, you will struggle.

Disgusting Hotel

Posted 24 Jan 2020 on Hotels
This is the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed at. I expected a budget hotel, but I was shocked to see how dirty this place was. The sheets had stains. There were stains on the walls. There was literally a used tissue with a blood stain on it being used to hold up the glass top of the bureau. They provided flip flops for the bathroom that were very dirty. My husband slept in his clothes, because it was clearly a very dirty room.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for taking your precious time to share your recent stay experience with us. We are sincerely apologise for the stain mark on your bedsheet during your stay. Unfortunately our laundry staff omitted to remove that stain and I was strongly gave warning to all housekeeping and laundry team regarding all linen and bedroom cleanness. The tissue under table glass will be going to be changed and all room cleanness condition will be under detail inspection. We promise that we'll take all necessary actions after we complete room inspection in detail. We take all reviews positive and negative very seriously, and your feedback will help us improve for our next guests or your next visit. Sincerely, Aung Si Thu General Manager

A comfortable stay

Posted 17 Mar 2019 on Hotels
Nothing spectacular however delivered comfort together with a decent breakfast for AUD35. This compares to a nearby hotel I paid AUD45 that was more comfortable but had to move from because of noise; trains and karaoke bar. If worried about getting woken by the trains, ask for a room away from the road. Hotel offers a small roof top resturant to enjoy a drink and meal in the evening

RUINED OUR TRIP TO MANDALAY!!!!

Posted 15 Nov 2018 on Hotels
Ruined our stay in Mandalay!! We asked for a taxi for the day to see 2 waterfalls but we were taken to other locations where we dod not want to go. Driver eventually found a waterfall but not the right one. Managers attitude when we complained was not helpful and would only give small discount on the price. It was our last day so could not do the trip next day. Rooftop bar is nice but the room is small and dated. Bathroom a bit old and grubby but decent price for central location.

Dear Tracy, Thank you for taking your precious time to share your feedback with us. As we have discussed that you didn't mentioned clearly about which waterfalls you want to go. Your just asked our front desk to book a taxi to Pyin Oo Lwin and the driver also driven to main attractions including some waterfalls in Pyin Oo Lwin. One of waterfalls you asked me was also not in Pyin Oo Lwin area, It is just near Mandalay called Dee Doke waterfall. I'm sorry that you miss a waterfall in Pyin Oo Lwin. But I'm glad that our driver tried his best to a alternate waterfall which both of you enjoyed. I gave you 100% discount for U Bein bridge visit to compensate your disappointment. But I'm sorry to hear that my offer was not up to your expectation. Thank you again for your feedback and we will try our best to improve our service base on your feedback.

Friendly staff and good value hotel

Posted 1 Nov 2018 on Hotels
Friendly staff who speak a bit of English and always try to help, easiest way to get around is by taxi as the sights are spread around so no ideal one place to stay. Breakfast was ok, room not massive but for the price it was perfectly adequate.

Good budget hotel with rooftop bar.

Posted 17 Oct 2018 on Hotels
Decent size room with fridge, tea/ coffee and free water, very hard bed tho. Lift was handy so we didn't have to climb stairs. Had lovely rooftop bar and indoor resturant with good prices and good food. Lovely helpful staff. Ok location, close to train station. we walked to the royal palace but got completely stuck in traffic trying to cross South Moat Road so take care if your walking there as there are no footpaths and lots of traffic.

I am thrilled to hear that you had a fantastic stay and that you found our service and surroundings convenient. We have indeed located just a 7-minute walk from South Moat Road and the shopping malls and just a stone's throw away from the Central Railway Station. I am delighted that during your stay you had the opportunity to dine in our rooftop bar, it certainly is an experience that shouldn’t be missed. Once again, thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay, and my only wish is that I can personally welcome you back upon your return to The 79 Living Hotel. Cheap spot to stay for a night or two

Posted 10 Dec 2017 on Wotif
Pros: Friendly staff, rooftop bar is good, but small.
Cons: The hotel corridors could do with a bit of colour.
I stayed for just one night before flying out to Bangkok. The staff were friendly and had some good restaurant recommendations. They were also able to book me a quick trip to Mandalay hill, which was a nice way to finish the day.

Close to Rail Station

Posted 13 Mar 2017
I stayed at the hotel due to proximity to the railway station. The hotel is average so don't have overly high expectations. Roof top bar isn't bad but is tiny. Breakfast/dining area could do with a clean.
