Excellent option a little far from the Party night, but I really like the hotel, so pace full

Quiet hotel, great location

Posted 11 Mar 2018
Hotel was in a nice location and very quiet, nicely maintained. Room could have been cleaner and the mattress was extremely firm, past point of comfort. Room was huge and staff were very accommodating.

Canopy Dreams

Posted 22 Feb 2018
Pros: Restaurant and food, view looking over the ocean from a high point huge pluses. Room was large, contains a minifridge and coffeemaker.
Cons: We wish the pool were just a little larger. Otherwise it was clean and refreshing. Daogs barking at night slightly annoying.
Location: A mile from main beach and village - plenty of bakeries and cafes and surf shops and bars down by the water. Monkeywatching, yoga., 4 wheeling, surf
Hotel Moana is tucked up in the canopy just outside the dusty town of Santa Theresa. Easy access to town but away from it all. The view from the restaurant is worth the price of admission, and the food and service there were excellent. The staff was accommodating and quick to respond. Decor is jungle chic, rooms are comfortable, spacious and clean. Outside shower was great for rinsing after a dusty morning run or swimming all day at nearby Playa Carmen. If you have trouble climbing stairs, this is not the place for you. Nothing is on the level! But for any who are game, you will be rewarded with shady canopy full of birds and spectacular view from the way high up open air restaurant.

The Moana is a beautiful hotel with amazing staff and views. We upgraded to a room with a view and it was worth every penny. The sunsets from our balcony were unreal. The room was very large and in good shape. The restaurant at the hotel is great with equally amazing views. We ate there quite a bit. A couple of draw backs is it's a bit of a hike into town if you don't have a car and the stairs up to the rooms and restaurant are a bit of a hike especially with bags.

Nice ocean view landscape from your bed

Posted 16 Apr 2017
Pros: Location and price-value
Cons: Breakfast options, bath soap and shampoo availability
Location: Lots of beaches and good places to eat. To arrive, SUV or higher is recommended. At the beach, if using your own car, don't leave any valuable object.
Check-in and check-out was experience was good. Average service level was ok. Included breakfast should include more options. Room is clean, AC is fine and Wifi works good

Two nights in Mal Pais

Posted 1 Feb 2017
I was inadvertently put in a Standard Room (no tv, very average), but was then upgraded to the Honeymoon Suite at top oh hill (equisite). View and room was to die for. Adjoining hillside restaurant was beautiful with amazing views too. My chief complaint is it is far from town (long walk) and the Sandy beaches. I had a car so was able to drive up to banana beach and relax at some a very nice beach, albeit not of the same class as were I was staying.

It could be amazing, but falls short

A beautiful, isolated hotel- that is ideal for relaxing, however the lack of a good restaurant and simple touches, such as complementary water on your arrival, results in the typical overpriced hotel mini bar purchase or commuting to Santa Teresa to eat. Restaurants in Santa Teresa are fantastic and so I would simply stay there as we did earlier in the break rather stay at Moana. If only this could offer a decent food offerings with it's view it would be unrivalled.
