Majadahonda is just 11 miles from Madrid and offers superb transport links to the centre of the capital. Its historic old town was destroyed during the Civil War, meaning nowadays you can only admire its remnants, such as the Church of Santa Catalina. Most of the streets, squares and buildings were built from 1960 onwards.
If you like sport, you can improve your swing on the Las Rejas golf course, located in the southern part of the town, within walking distance of the Centro Oeste shopping centre, where you’ll find more than eighty stores in case you feel in the need of some retail therapy. The Equinoccio shopping centre also offers shops and restaurants, with various movie theatres where you can enjoy a good movie.
Nature lovers, or those travelling with children, will be able to make their way to the Naturaleza Viva environmental education centre, managed by Grupo de Rehabilitación de la Fauna Autóctona y su Hábitat, which offers guided tours over the weekend. Take a tour of the centre and you’ll be able to see different species of birds such as eagles, owls, vultures and storks, and learn about the projects for the conservation and rehabilitation of local fauna that are carried out here.
