Great host makes it worthwhile

Posted 26 Oct 2017 on Hotels
The location of this hostel is a bit removed from town but there are busitos available every hour to go in between for 1$ pp each way; as long as you're not too claustrophobic. Angel is fantastic for letting you know the times when they'll be coming through if you ask and will even message and watch for them if you need to catch one. Amenities are basic but comfortable. Wifi speed was about 4-5Mbps. Cleanliness was pretty great with only a few smaller issues that come from sharing a bathroom. Shower had hot water and the kitchen was available for preparing your own meals, if you'd like. Breakfast included different things each day, Venezuelan specialties sometimes, and was accommodated for dietary restrictions. The road isn't too busy, so you can take a walk on it around the Alto Quiel/Bajo Mono loop if you're in decent physical shape. It's scenic and you can stop at Finca Lerida about 45 minutes (270km elevation gain) up the road if you don't want to walk the entire loop (about 4 hours total for the while loop). Unfortunately they will be losing their fantastic host, Angel, in the next few weeks but his family owns the place so hopefully they can find someone close to as welcoming as him.

Autana

Posted 21 Jun 2017 on Hotels
We enjoyed our stay in Autana. If you are scared of insects don't go there though. The wild life is very present. No screens between windows and the room/bathroom and you must understand that you are in a mountain not in the village. 10min taxi ride to the village or you can catch the bus that passes every 30min for 1$. The host was beyond great! We arrived super early and he let us in so we can sleep. We also left early and the breakfast was hot and ready (6:30am) . Kitchen is perfect to cook your own meals and you'll also have access to a very small fridge.

Some unpleasant experience

Posted 8 Apr 2017
Pros: The hostes were very nice with us ,breakfast was very consistent, location in a very nice area.
Cons: This B&B needs serious updating starting from furniture to the overal building.
The room which we got was a big room but no windows as the entrance was the from the court yard through a small entryway...so we felt as we were in a bunker. We could have get used to this idea but the problem were some tiny ants that you can see them running up and down on the walls so we were afraid to put our staff on the floor because we did not want to take it home with us. The matress of the suspended bed was so soft that you would be sleeping as you are in hammock. The toilet was not flushing properly and everything is looking old around it. The washroom and entrance windows did not have windows screens so we got a scorpion during the night and other insects.
