Perched on its namesake bay, Los Frailes is a secluded beach comprising a long stretch of sand bordering crystal clear water. At its northwestern end rises the beach’s namesake rock formation, creating a stunning backdrop as it branches into the sea. Admire the tranquility and scenery of one of the East Cape’s most spectacular beaches.
The bay is particularly quiet and spacious, with few lodging options and restaurants. Rent kayaks to take out on the gentle waves in this national park area. Bring snorkeling gear and take your kids swimming in the clear water of the Gulf of California for a glimpse of the colorful aquatic life. Watch fishermen casting for their dinner but note that fishing is prohibited for non-locals.
Dry off in the afternoon heat on a blanket on the sand and enhance your tan. Take photos of your family posed with the Los Frailes Rock forming a picturesque background. The name of the beach and mountain is Spanish for friars, in reference to the region’s missionary history.
Study the beach’s information board, which has a translation in English about the Cabo Pulmo National Park and the marine life here. You may spot sea turtles by the beach. To keep their offspring safe, refrain from driving your vehicle on the sand.
Rent one of the vacation villas in the area and enjoy the views of the bay. Some vacationers prefer to set up tents on the beach and sleep beneath the stars. Access this beach for free it is open to the public at all times.
Find Los Frailes on the East Cape in the southern part of the Baja California Peninsula. Drive south from the town of Cabo Pulmo for a few minutes to get here. While in the area, visit other sights such as the Cabo Pulmo Marine Reserve, Playa los Arbolitos and Playa Sirenas.
