Whilst this property looks appealling in the Times photos, the current reality is very different. I arrived at the property and was shown to a room where I was immediately hit by a musty, humid smell. Despite trying to air the room the stale air permeated. The pictures on the website also did not reflect the rough finish with small hole in the corners of the room. The bedding did not look clean when I arrived and I certainly did not feel inclined to sit on the bed or the dinghy and discoloured chair covering. The pictures on the website, which were clearly taken when the rooms were freshly decorated, do not represent the current tired look of the room I was shown. The response from the property owners is that I should expect some wear and tear and the property is described as rustic. There is rustic and there is downright shabby, neglected and in need of a complete refresh.

Unique querky little hotel. Clean well managed. Breakfast just down the road in sister hotel was clean freshly cooked

Excellent pub hotel
Posted 18 Mar 2024 on HotelsI'm really happy I found the Culpeper, much nicer place to stay for the same price (or lower) than a cheap chain hotel. Well located for central London, just a few minutes walk from East Aldgate tube. It's really just a few rooms above the pub, but the rooms are comfy, with much more character than the many overpriced places I've stayed in London. Comfy bed, nice shower, WiFi is good. All I need for a 1 night stay on business. Breakfast is served in a sister pub about 5 minutes walk away. Nice food and really friendly service. I'll certainly recommend.

Wonderful stay
Posted 23 Dec 2023 on HotelsWe stayed here for one night but wish it could have been longer there’s a great bar downstairs and an excellent restaurant on the first floor the bedrooms are really great and the whole building is shabby chic everyone that worked there was very friendly and the wonderful breakfast is a minutes walk to a sister building
