Go on a guided or self-guided tour of this beautiful government building for its centuries-old and contemporary art and fascinating stories about Ljubljana's past.

Explore the art, architecture and history of Ljubljana Town Hall where the city government's power resides. The original building was constructed toward the end of the 15th century, but the current form dates back to early 18th-century reconstructions.

Before entering, admire the Robba Fountain or Fountain of Three Carniolan Rivers outside the front door in Mestni trg or Town Square. The Baroque monument by the 18th-century Venetian sculptor Francesco Robba features ornate carvings of three river gods. During the summer, listen to local musicians performing on the front steps or trumpeters on the building’s balcony. These performances hark back to earlier centuries when the town's first trumpeters played ceremonial fanfares for important occasions.

In the lobby area, find a 17th-century statue of Hercules with a lion. There is also a plaque featuring a coat of arms from the original building. Then step into the three-tiered arched courtyard to see the beautiful Narcissus Fountain. This water feature was also created by Robba and once stood in Bokalce Castle. Nearby is a monument to a former mayor of Ljubljana. Visit the building’s four exhibition spaces where you may see displays of the work of local and regional artists.

On Saturdays only, there are guided tours of the town hall in English or Slovenian. These tours include most of the halls where official meetings are held and incorporate a presentation on Ljubljana's history. For details of how to book your tickets, visit the website of the Ljubljana Convention Bureau. You can also purchase tickets from tourist information centers in the city.

Ljubljana Town Hall sits on Town Square in the city center, close to the Ljubljana Cathedral. Walk, drive or come by public transportation. The nearest paid street parking to the building is next to the Ljubljana Puppet Theater, a short walk away. Admission to the town hall is free, but there is a charge for the guided tours.
