Classic rides, a freefall at top speed, lively dance halls, restaurants and a botanical garden attract people of all ages to Gothenburg’s inner-city amusement park.

Plummet towards the earth at g-force 4 on Europe’s largest freefall ride or test your nerve on the Balder roller coaster before enjoying live music at one of the park’s concert and dance halls. Liseberg Amusement Park has plenty of gentler attractions for young children and the well-tended botanical gardens give older visitors a chance to take a break away from the excited screams in the park.

Liseberg Amusement Park (Nojespark) opened in 1923 and has grown to become one of Scandinavia’s largest amusement parks. Over 50 attractions, from the ultra-modern thrilling roller coasters to more old-fashioned rides, ensure that visitors can enjoy the park.

Adrenaline seekers will head straight to the transformed Liseberg Tower to experience one of Europe’s highest freefalls: AtmosFear. Plunge from a height of 380 feet (116 meters) in under four seconds while matching the speed limit of Swedish motorways! Make sure you experience Balder, a classic wooden roller coaster, one of the best in the world.

Teacup rides, dodgem cars and a Ferris wheel with city views are some of the gentler rides in Liseberg. The Hall of Mirrors is good fun too. Once the rides have stopped for the day then the focus shifts to the main stage and the dance hall, where live bands play almost every summer night.

In December, Liseberg Amusement Park becomes even more magical. Marvel at the five million fairy lights, an ice show, sleigh rides and food stalls with reindeer kebabs which create a special festive atmosphere.

Liseberg Amusement Park opens during the warmer months from April to October and again from mid-November to December 23 for the festive holiday season. Liseberg is located on the outskirts of Gothenburg, and can be reached by foot, public transportation or car from the city center. There is a charge for entry, except for children under 43 inches (110 centimeters). Most attractions have height requirements. Note that the park has a coupon system, so you pay per ride. You can buy snacks and drinks throughout the park.
