The original birthplace of Ireland’slinen industry, Lisburn offersstunning scenery, historic architecture and a modern, bustling city centre. Thecity and surrounding areas provide a unique insight into Irish culture andhistory, and the romance of the rolling hills of Lagan Valley Regional Park are just six miles northeast of the city centre. 

The city of Lisburnis a stone’s throw from some of Ireland’smost scenic walks yet just 18 miles from the capital of Belfast. Known in theregion as a leading centre for arts and culture, Lisburn has seen vast regeneration over the past few years and nowhouses some of the region's busiest shopping and leisure centres.

Take a free guided tour through the award-winning Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museumto explore Ireland’s industrialheritage. The Lisburn Museum has achild-friendly approach, which makes it ideal for the whole family and it’sconsistently rated one of the most interesting museums in the area.

Lisburn Castle Gardens is the mosthistorically significant open space in the city and although the castle is nomore, the grounds provide a tranquil escape from Lisburn’s busy shopping district.

Lisburn is ashopper’s paradise. There’s a fantastic balance between high street brands andindependent traders, which makes the award-winning Lisburn Square as charming as ever. The multi-coloured buildingsand central market place make for idyllic weekend moochings, which can bebroken up by coffee in one of the many quirky, independent cafes in thearea.

Nature in Lisburn

A trip along the River Lagan will take you through the citycentre and up into the Lagan ValleyRegional Park. It’s approximately 6.3 miles from the centre of Lisburn, making it a challenging yetpicturesque walk, but there are regular bus services running to and from thecity centre.

Enjoy a picnic by the river or afternoon tea at one of thelocal cafes. Pick a trail and explore the rose garden at Terrace Hill, whichoffers excellent views across the valley of the Belfast Hills. From here youcan also see the ancient Giant’s Ring, a henge monument that dates back to2700BC.
