The location was wonderful. It was close enough to walk to shops and restaurants & to explore yet also away from the more congested tourist areas. I was weary during check in, as the staff at reception did not present as friendly as I'm accustomed to from hotel staff when traveling. My Expedia rewards status was not honored. I was given some cookies, fruit and hotel slippers as compensation. During check in I was not told I needed to use the keycard for my room door to activate the elevator and to keep the light on in my room. I thought it was strange that another hotel guest needed to show me how to use the elevator rather than reception upon checking in and I needed to return to reception to ask how to keep the lights on in the room. Most troubling was when I went into the hotel restaurant for the breakfast that I prepaid for, I felt the hostess treated me as though I was criminal, as apparently my room number was not yet entered into her database of guest who prepaid for breakfast. Her disposition and demeanor was very rude as she debated me about my breakfast status and she exclaimed she would need to go with me to the front desk to look into this. At the front desk after speaking to me in English, she spoke to staff at reception in Portuguese in front of me making me feel even more like a criminal and I found it rude. Staff at reception appeared warmer as my stay progressed and I did find it sweet that they found out it was my birthday and surprised me with dessert.
