Admire ancient artifacts and precious relics that shine a light on the heritage of this proud nation.

Take a close look at carefully constructed tools and prehistoric utensils at the Liechtenstein National Museum. Discover local culture and regional traditions. Explore some of the country’s most beautiful and diverse landscapes.

The Liechtenstein National Museum is housed in a classical white building that dates back to the early 15th century. Re-opened in 2003, it now has 42 display rooms that explore the history and culture of the country and its capital.

Start on the ground floor where the settlement area explores the history of civilization in Liechtenstein. Leap back in time to see a ceramic bowl from the 5th century B.C. or take a look at how building and clothing have evolved since those early days.

Upstairs, the protection room is broadly centered on the Middle Ages, with a dazzling collection of gold coins. Wander from here to the celebration area where the walls and ceiling are alive with color, embracing the many rural festivities that have been taking place in the countryside since the 19th century. See the cowshed wall decorated with wooden hearts that adorned cattle as they were brought down from the higher fields at the end of summer.

Continue up to the top floor and step into the world of the country’s ruling elite. See boundary stones that once separated great territories and read stories about the battles and sieges of the military before it was disbanded in 1868.

Treat yourself to the spectacular exhibit of the nation’s natural habitats and the amazing creatures that live in them. Dramatic sculptures and photos will transport you into the wild, with a selection of birds including a kingfisher and a golden eagle.

Liechtenstein National Museum is in the center of Vaduz. Visit the café and a gift shop that sells locally produced wine along with handcrafted textiles and woodwork. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday and has an entry fee.
