A good welcome but a stressful experience
Posted 9 Jul 2016
Pros: Jim, who was one of the owners, welcomed us well when we arrived, and the room was very comfortable and pleasing.
Cons: The price for the room is far too expensive for what you get - it is not like a hotel, but rather a very small 'house' and a pleasing/posh B&B.
Location: The location is excellent - it's very close to Commercial Street in the main town centre.
The worst thing about our stay at Knysna House was that on our final day, we left our suitcases at the hotel whilst we spent time in the town. We let Jim from Knysna know that we would be back at Knysna before 1pm (when our taxi was due to turn up to take us back to the airport). However, when we turned up (at about 12:35pm), we found that the outside front door at Knysna was locked. So naturally we rang on the doorbell, several times - no response. I then rang the hotel reception - several times - we could hear their phone ringing from where we were stood on the doorstep - no answer. Time was ticking by.
I then went round the back, shouting out Jim's name in case he was somewhere in the hotel grounds - nothing. You might imagine how our stress levels were rising because our taxi was due in about 20 minutes time and we needed our cases to take home. I went back to the front door and then noticed that Jim's mobile telephone number was on a sign just near the door - I managed to get hold of him, and he said he would be there in 5 minutes. Apparently, Knysna had been left 'unattended.'
We waited for what we hoped would not be more than 5 minutes - right on cue, a fancy car turned up and sure enough Jim arrived. However, there was no apology made or explanation why no-one was there for us; instead, he just came out grinning, asking "Did you think we'd done a runner?" (which I did not find that appropriate considering our stress levels had gotten pretty high).

Litet hotell med personlig atmosfär
Posted 7 Jul 2016En mycket positiv upplevelse.
