Lepe is a town in the Spanish province of Huelva that can boast a lot of history, unsurprisingly, since it was founded by the Phoenicians. Over the years, it’s also been inhabited by Romans and Arabs, and all have left their mark to form modern-day Lepe. Ready to discover it for yourself? Then book our cheap trips to Lepe and enjoy an adventure!
As you stroll down the streets of the town, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the ajimez, a mullioned window, of the library. This arched window, divided in the centre by a column, is a perfect example of Mudéjar architecture.
Another monument you’ll want to see is the Torre del Catalán, a 10 metre (30 feet) high tower. This tower is a beacon built at the end of the 16th century to defend the coast from the attacks of the Berber pirates. While here, be sure to visit Lepe's beaches, a popular tourist attraction. We recommend La Antilla, Nueva Umbria and Islantilla.
At sunset, you can take a stroll along El Terrón, the town's fishing port and marina. Another option is to cross the area's coastal pine forests, where, with a bit of luck, you can spot species such as the chameleon. If you prepare some snacks, you can dine under the stars, and really enjoy the peace and tranquillity.
No package deal to Lepe would be complete without a tour of the Marismas del Río Piedras y Flecha del Rompido Natural Park, a space covering over 2,500 hectares (6,000 acres) that will reconnect you with nature. Pack some comfortable shoes and get ready to walk, safe in the knowledge that if it gets a little hot, you can go for a refreshing dip when the heat gets too much.
The easiest way to reach the town is to fly to Faro airport, in Portugal, or Seville and then travel to Huelva, which is 35 kilometres (21 miles) from Lepe. Once in Huelva you can get a bus. Got everything packed? Then get ready to enjoy your travel deal to Lepe!
