Lovely place, but in a very isolated village
This was our first visit to Lefkada and we wanted to stay near Porto Katsiki. When looking for hotels I stumbled across Yades Villas in the village of Athani. The villa exceeded expectations with a private pool and accommodations were excellent. However, Athani is very rural and really isolated. We used Google maps to get there and Google maps will send you the fastest way and it is not always the safest way. We drove on roads that were truly dangerous and fortunately for us, we didn't encounter a car coming in the opposite direction. There are also no addresses in Athani so we were utilizing the postal code to get us there and not the name of the villa. Our mistake. We ended up calling Christos to find us!
We did receive an email with directions and in hindsight, we should have followed those direciton instead of Google maps. Location to Porto Katsiki is much closer than if you stayed elsewhere on the island. Access to Egremni beach is not possible due to roads being closed from the earthquake in November. You can only get there by boat.
Christos and his brother were helpful once we arrived and they provided a bottle of wine known on the island. The villa was really lovely. There was a mix-up with the total number staying. After the stressful drive and we checked-in, I immediately received a call that we were going to owe more money. The timing of the call added more stress. Once we went to Porto Katsiki, the stress of finding the villa subsided. Magnificent beach.
