Walk high above the jungle on this elegant bridge, a remarkable feat of engineering that allows you to feel like you’re at the top of the world, or the island at least.

Take the gondola up the mountain and walk cross the elegant Langkawi Sky Bridge for a unique experience at 2,300 feet (700 meters) above sea level. On a misty day, you’ll be walking in the clouds and on a sunny day you can enjoy panoramic views of the Andaman sea.

The gondola, or “SkyCab,” is the start of this adventure. Safely seated in an enclosed cabin, you’ll be zooming up Gunung Mat Cinchang, the second-highest peak on Langkawi, in less than 15 minutes. There are two platforms at the top station, connected by a boardwalk-like bridge. One platform has a cafeteria that sells souvenirs, snacks and drinks.

To avoid lining up and paying extra for the gondola, just take the stairs down to the Sky Bridge. Walking across this 410-feet (125-meter) long, curving pedestrian bridge is not for the faint-hearted, since the bridge is supported by one steel pylon only. However, it doesn’t swing much and the double-steel railings and wire mesh keep all pedestrians safe . It is so strong, in fact, that up to 250 people may cross at any one time.

The bridge is wide enough for two people to pass each other. There are two triangular-shaped platforms that act as rest stops and outlooks along the way. Because the curves have the bridge swing outwards, you get treated to a new perspective every minute.

Don’t forget to enjoy the stunning views around and below you. Take in the turquoise and sky-blue bay, the nearby islands and the emerald peaks and rainforests of Langkawi itself. On a clear day, you can see as far as Tarutao Island in Thailand.

To reach the bridge, join a tour, take a taxi or rent a car or scooter to get there from Kuah, Langkawi’s main town. The Sky Bridge is accessible via the artificially created duty-free Oriental Village near Pantai Kok, just northwest of the airport. There is a ticket office in the Oriental Village. Be aware that a visit to the Sky Bridge isn’t included in your fare for the SkyCab, although the extra tickets are very cheap. Bring a wind jacket or sweater, because on a windy day it’s much colder at the top.
