This was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Room design was efficient and cozy and updated. It had great lighting, the decoration touches with the paper window shades was so nice. This will be our goto hotel anytime we are back in Kyoto. The staff were super helpful and overall we had the best stay here.

The hotel was great except that they won't allow us to reduce one day stay. After Expedia worked with them they simply cancelled our booking and when we arrived at the hotel they told us to rebook it in higher prices. We arrived late and tired and didn't expect to deal with it back and forth. Since Expedia has already worked it out for us. Other than that the hotel staff tried to accommodate us. The rooms are clean and spacious. The breakfast and free tea time were great. We are happy to stay there. We will stay there again but hope their booking would be more flexible. Any other hotels allow us to increase or reduce days of stay before the changing due date. Not sure why it is so difficult for Richmond Hotel. The staffs are great and trying hard to fix the problem.

Our family have spent the past two and half weeks vacationing in Taiwan and Japan. This hotel is the best we have stayed. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent hotel conditions. Steps away from the Kyoto station and shopping district.The room is spacious according to Japanese standard. Toilet and bathroom are separate. Free drinks in the afternoon. Alcohol tasting from 6:00 to 8:30pm is amazing. I highly recommend this hotel.

Wonderful hotel with cozy and comfortable rooms and a beautiful traditional Japanese aesthetic, as well as fantastic location. The service could not have been better since the staff were very efficient, gracious, polite, friendly, constantly greeting us and asking how they could help improve our stay. They were very helpful when asked for ideas of where to go, gave detailed help when asked regarding transportation, helped ship our luggage to our next hotel, and they were very hospitable as they reminded us about the available amenities and different services they offer. Their restaurant and lounge staff during both their buffet breakfast and during their snack reception and social hour were also fantastic and couldn’t have been friendlier. My family of 4 with 2 young children had an incredible stay and would recommend this hotel to friends and family without any hesitation. We plan to stay here again on our next stay to Kyoto.

A wonderful hotel and a perfect stay! All the staff were so kind, polite and went the extra mile to ensure our stay was comfortable. As a pleasant surprise, the hotel had complimentary afternoon tea service with a nice selection of snacks and drinks. In the evening, from 6pm to 9pm, there was an apertif service - sampling sake, plum wine and local red and whites. The room was large and very comfortable. We each got our own set pyjamas. The amenities are self-serve in the lobby with great scents. Location is superb - about a 5-8 minute walk to Kyoto station. It's a hub for shinkansen bullet trains, local trains and subways. You'll be able to go to any major tourist attraction from Kyoto station. Kyoto station alone has dozens of great eateries in the Porta Dining mall - meals to suit every budget, with English menus. Would definitely stay here again!

Arrived at the hotel and had to go on a skirmish with the hotel staff over having to pay extra for my kids breakfast even when the booking was made with breakfast included. They claim only 3 pax were covered by the Expedia booking and I had to pay for extra 2 even when the room was booked for 5 pax. No where was this limitation mentioned in the Expedia booking. The hotel gave in after a lengthy discussion. I’m not sure who fumbled this up but this left a bad taste for otherwise a great hotel stay while in Tokyo.

Hidden Gem. What an amazing hotel. Rooms are small but very cozy. This is the cleanest hotel I’ve ever been in. Smells great. We came for two nights and were super surprised the hotel offer free tea time (deserts, coffee and tea) as well as free happy hour (6-8:30pm) where they serve FREE Japanese beer and Sake (yes - completely free as much as you can drink). Staff was amazing. We loved the hotel so much that we decided to come back to it 2 days later and the hotel was more than happy to hold our heavy suitcase for us. They helped us make reservations in a local restaurant that only spoke Japanese. It’s 5 mins walk from Kyoto station and very easy to walk anywhere in town. Amazing value for the cost. Highly recommended for couples
