Relax under an sun umbrella or swim, snorkel and surf at one of the most visited spots in Bali. Famous for its warm water, great surf, affordable massages and impressive sunsets, lively Kuta Beach attracts millions of visitors from all over the world.
If you are staying in or near the region of Kuta, you will likely come to Kuta Beach every day. Kuta Beach is the stretch of sand that connects the villages of Kuta, Legian, Tuban and Seminyak on the west coast of Bali. There are no clear boundaries between the villages. No longer a place for local fishermen and die-hard surfers, this Kuta Beach has become a lively entertainment strip with many facilities.
The gentle waves and sandy bottom of Kuta Beach make it suitable for all levels of surfers. The local surf school can teach you how to ride the waves and how to avoid the crowds in the water. There’s plenty to do if surfing is not your thing. Parasail, go on a banana boat trip, get a temporary tattoo, enjoy a traditional Indonesian massage or have your hair braided.
At night, dine at a beachside café and watch the legendary sunset. Smiling locals will come to your table to sell souvenirs and handmade jewelry. There is no need to go back to your hotel straight after dark, because Kuta Beach is synonymous with parties.
The Balinese are known as friendly and welcoming people, but as with any busy tourist destination, you should keep an eye on your belongings or leave valuables in a hotel locker.
Kuta Beach is about a 20-minute drive from Bali’s capital, Denpasar. Rent a taxi or motorbike to get to Kuta and then walk or cycle to the beach. With limited parking available, it’s not recommended to get to the beach by car. The best time to visit Kuta Beach is in the cooler dry season, between May and October.
