Great location in the heart of town
Posted 7 May 2023 on HotelsNice place; comfortable and clean; utilizes beautiful public bath nearby. Had to park a couple blocks away and walk.

Relaxed comfort
Posted 1 Mar 2023 on HotelsComfortable, spacious and super friendly/helpful staff. Private outdoor onsen was superb, especially when it was snowing. I didn’t find the public foot bath to be very warm.
Great location, central to all the places and experiences I was seeking.

Small and well-furnished hotel
Posted 27 Dec 2019 on HotelsVery nicely furnished room and general hotel area, with a unique in-house onsen experience. There are both footbaths as well as a full onsen in the hotel. Do note that there is no shower/bathtub in the room though, so you will have to use the onsen. Amenities were nice as well, with free tea and coffee via a machine on the second floor, and a simple free breakfast too. Don't expect a huge hotel, but we enjoyed the friendly service and pleasant room for the price. It also helps that they have a fairly regular shuttle service to the bus terminal. Would recommend if you're looking for a simple place to stay while exploring Kusatsu, for small groups/couples.

Small but centrally located hotel, easy to walk around and find places to eat. Room is pretty small and no shower so you have to go to the onsen to washand soak in the hot spring. Bus terminal is a steep climb

Wonderful place to stay to enjoy Kusatsu
Posted 14 Sep 2019 on HotelsGreat experience! The grounds are clean and relaxing. They know enough English to help answer any questions you may have. We booked the private onsen room, which was a fun experience. The only thing is there is no private space to get dressed/undressed when you use the shower or the onsen other than the bedroom space. If you don't opt for the private onsen, they take their time to explain to you how to use the shared one. You can also soak in the free foot bath next to the reception area. Breakfast was free and delicious. Simple options: pastries, eggs, sausage, juice, coffee, tea. Finding the reception is a little tricky. You will see the foot bath area first. Just walk past it, then you'll reach the reception desk. Other tip, try not to come here with luggage. The walk between the station to the hotel is very short, but not smooth enough to roll your luggage comfortably.

Best location in front of Hotspring field
Posted 20 Jan 2019 on HotelsPros
1) very good location in front of Yubatake, walk from bus terminal 10-15min.
Cons
1) entrance is a narrow passageway beside a shop, asked a local & she brought me there.
A small word, souan.
2) No view. 2 rooms with window view facing Yubatake is blocked by wooden panelled building facade.
3) only 1 small indoor onsen.

We had the room with the private hot bath, and it was definitely worth the stay! Although it wasn't very private (right next to the other room that had an outdoor bath) it was still very enjoyable! Room was very clean, and they even provided you with traditional clothing to wear around town for onsen hopping. I would highly recommend stay at Souan! It was also the perfect location (right in the middle of downtown)!

Lovely staff held onto your belongings prior to check in and placed them into the rooms when it was ready. Staff spoke english, room was super clean and comfortable. They had a private bath to use as well. Highly recommend. Its in a great location.
