A spectacular building that dominates Wiesbaden’s beautiful bowling green, this events center and casino is a cultural hub and an important historic site.

The Kurhaus is an unmistakable Wiesbaden landmark, a huge and magnificent building that stands out even among the many other beautiful structures in the town. Come here to attend an event or conference or to spend an evening immersed in the glamour of the on-site casino. Many people also spend sunny afternoons relaxing on the lovely Bowling Green, the spacious green area in front of the Kurhaus.

Today, Wiesbaden is one of the richest cities in Germany. It owes this achievement partly to its long history as a spa resort town. For hundreds of years, people have flocked here to enjoy the waters of the natural hot springs scattered throughout the area. Spend a day in one of the city’s lavish spas, such as the historic Kaiser Friedrich Spa, and you will soon get a sense of the decadence and luxury that caused the city’s tourist scene to explode in the 19th century. As the city’s popularity grew, new facilities were needed, and construction began on the vast Kurhaus in 1902. It was designed by the architect Friedrich von Thiersch, who also worked on other famous buildings such as the Berlin Reichstag.

Whether or not you go inside the Kurhaus, make sure you take plenty of photos of the gorgeous neo-Baroque exterior. The stately portico that marks the entrance makes for the perfect background to vacation pictures. The lush green expanse of the Bowling Green spreads out in front, with historic buildings on all sides and two lovely fountains in the middle. Open-air concerts with big-name musicians are held here regularly.

Attend an event in the Kurhaus or head to Wiesbaden Casino and you will be treated to the opulent interior. The high-ceilinged rooms, including a large concert hall, are decorated with frescoes, patterned marble floors, gilt detailing and elaborate chandeliers.

Check what is on at the Kurhaus before you visit. Events held here include conferences, speeches, concerts and much more. Book your tickets in advance, as events in this remarkable building are understandably extremely popular.
