"The Leela Ashtamudi is a truly beautiful hotel with a prime position overlooking the backwaters. The staff were excellent. The complementary high tea and house boat cruise really made our stay in Kollam. Our room was of a very high standard but tired in areas, as were some parts of the hotel. Overall excellent but management could really do with investing in maintenance/upgrade to make this a truly world class destination."

"the location is amazing ...overlooking the sea with access to wide open beaches and no people - a big contrast to Verkala north cliff beach. "We had a lovely stay in one of the AC rooms, which had its own small seating area and was very private and peaceful. A haven from the busy Varkala. The gardens here are beautiful and well kept, the staff all sweet and attentive and helpful, available 24hr. The breakfast included at their restaurant nearby was also great. But it was quite loud at night due to neighbouring properties, but maybe due to being there in peak season! "

"Really sweet spot just off the beach up a commerce alley. Jishnu the host was very nice and helpful with getting comfortable. Hot shower if you want it - but I’ve learned to love taking cold showers here - and the bathroom was perfectly clean and well appointed. I will be back here at the Gypsy next year for sure."
