Perfectly situated in Fort Kochi - Judy is the perfect hostess - a radiant woman with a big smile, and a genuine personality - she makes a great breakfast with plenty of local coffee to your desired strength - entitled colonialists are not welcome - if you are an open and spiritual person with your heart in the right place, you will be - and that is the way it should be - all the sites are close by within a minute or two to walk, and the best restaurants too - Judy’s wi-fi is high speed and she has spent a lot on it - no problems with internet here. The rooms are large, airy, and spacious, everything is clean, the beds are large enough to accommodate the Dutch, the correct balance of comfortable yet perfect for the spine...highly recommended.

Serene cool haven

Posted 1 Mar 2017
Pros: Location, cleanliness, delightful and helpful owner. Air conditioning is extra but the ceiling fans (provided) are all you really need. Strong wifi.
Cons: Few hotels in India offer reading lamps by the bed; this is no exception. However there are wall lights above the bed.
Location: Perfect location--XL is half a block from the plaza and the Chinese Fishing Nets, and half a block in the other direction from St. Francis Church.
This spotlessly clean guesthouse is a haven from the heat and dust of Cochin. I' had traveled in the north and arrived by overnight train quite exhausted and was so heppy to find this cool, quiet, comfortable place. The owner, Judy, is helpful and friendly. She will leave you alone if that is what you want, but I enjoyed our morning chats and learned a lot from her. Breakfast is excellent--cooked to order. Based on my stay I decided to return to Fort Cochin and XL after several more weeks of travel and fly back to the north from Cochin.

The hotel was clean and comfortable, staff very friendly. The shower and aircon were quite old and not working that well, but overall we had a good stay for the price

Nice hotel close to the beach

Posted 19 Feb 2017
Pros: Good location, friendly staff. Comfortable and clean bedding.
Cons: Shower facilities - the shower did not work very well whereby it was not easy to control water temperature. Used bucket instead.
Location: convenient location within walking distance to the beach, Chinese fishing nets, shops and restaurants and st Francis church.
overall a pleasant experience apart from one occasion when there was no running water available in the morning. This was due to hotel staff forgetting to turn on the valve the night before. The problem was resolved within about 45 mins.

Easy to find, easy on the wallet

Posted 26 Feb 2016
Pros: The breakfast was very nice, with a pleasant chat with the host, Judie who runs a very efficient business. The room was in good condition.
Location: Massage, communal laundry, fish market, Chinese fishing nets, swimming, history of the fort, some good shops with Indian curios and clothing, cafés
It's a very convenient spot for travellers to Cochin. The fort is a good vantage point: quick stroll to the beach, the Chinese fishing nets and plenty of good eateries. Julie was a good host, helping us with alacrity where requested but keeping appropriate distance when judicious. the ferry across the water makes transport even simpler. The beach is fairly narrow with lots of rubbish washed up but the promenade is a pleasant walk.

Relaxing stay with everything at your fingertips

We had such an amazing time in Fort Cochi. Judy and her son were a fantastic hosts! Sheldon was even kind to wake up at 4am to drive us to the airport. The place is very clean and spacious. The shower pressure wasn't great but the bucket and water way did the trick - there was plenty of hot water. Judy is so warm and welcoming, we were quickly made to feel at home. It's a great location and so handy, everything was within walking distance. We'd planned to stay there for a week and ended up coming back for more. Thanks Judy!
