The seaside resort of Knokke is perfect for a relaxing holiday. Enjoy the beach, the excellent food in great restaurants or an evening out. Knokke is close to Bruges, which is a great place for shopping!
Knokke is a submunicipality of Knokke-Heist and was granted town privileges in the 13th century following a number of land reclamations. Over the centuries, it slowly grew into a town. At the end of the 19th century more and more tourists started visiting the seaside resort.
Sincfala, Museum van de Zwinstreek, is a good place to learn more about Knokke's past. The For Freedom Museum shows the aftermath of the Second World War in the region. Bruges is just a stone’s throw away and a great place for a day of culture or shopping. If you're looking for an outdoor activity, the seaside is a good place to be. For example, there's the Albert and Zoute beaches, 10 kilometres of beach with lifeguard zones. Knokke is also close to nature reserve Zwin on the Dutch-Belgian border, a sanctuary for birds and other animals.
The town is very small making it easy to explore on foot or by bicycle. Hiring a bicycle is also the best way of exploring the area around Knokke. If you would like to visit one of the other seaside resorts in Belgium, such as Oostduinkerke or De Panne, take the coast tram (Kusttram) in Knokke. It's the easiest way of travelling up and down the coast.
Situated roughly a 1.5 hour drive from the Calais Ferry terminal, Knokke is easily reached by car. Other travel options are available though, with the town just a train ride away from Bruxelles-Nord station which has links to Brussels airport and Bruxelles-Midi’s Eurostar terminal.
