Klaus developed from a wine-growing region into a popular holiday village in the district of Feldkirch. It is located along the slopes of the “Hohe Kugel” Mountain at approximately 500 metres altitude on a terrace facing the South which rewards the small town with above-average sunshine throughout the year. The location in the right bay of the Rhine valley is extremely favourable for the climate as well as for the cultivation of high-quality wine.
While on a mini-break in Klaus in Vorarlberg, enjoy kilometres of beautiful hiking paths through the mixed forest to the 1,645 metre high “Hohe Kugel” with awe-inspiring panoramic views to the glaciers of the Silvretta and all the way to Lake Constance. During winter, 38 kilometres of hiking paths and the adjacent winter sports area Bödele and Laterns-Gapfohl are available to visitors. Bödele was discovered as a ski region a century ago already and offers 10 lifts with outstanding conditions. Laterns-Gapfohl is known to be the perfect family ski area and is located only a few kilometres from Klaus.
While on your city trip to Vorarlberg during spring, be witness to a true sea of flowers. The village has received several awards for its flower ornaments and has been recognised for its environmental commitment on national and international level. The pomiculture also contributes to the marvel of bloom in the spring. Experience the resurgent and blooming nature of Klaus on an educational forest hiking path.
While on your short trip, be sure to also find out more about the interesting history of the village as Klaus looks back on more than 1,100 years of traditions. Wine was cultivated on the slopes along the “Hohe Kugel” as early as the 12th century and written documents list the name of the village around the year 890 as “ad Calcaires” and as “Kalchers”. Chalk was burnt here on a large scale before the settlers began to grow wine.
Much of this past is buried by now but be sure to enjoy 18 holes on the miniature golf course with the family or take a trip to the golf club in Montford Rankweil while you are on your city trip to Vorarlberg.
