"Lovely hotel, good location, kind and friendly staff "

"This hotel is well-run, if a bit sterile. The onsens -- one large and older with exquisite outdoor rock pools; the other brand new -- make this hotel special and are the best reason to stay here. The building is a bit old and tired except for a new wing. And the breakfast is pricey for what is offered. I also found the pillows very uncomfortable: too big and too hard. But for a short stay, the hotel did not disappoint."

"The hotel is in a quiet part of Takayama but within easy walking distance of plenty of bars and eateries and the ‘old town’ area with great craft and local goods shops. Facilities are clean and our room was recently renovated. A great Onsen."

"Very close to the train station. Rather new hotel with very nice setup. The rooms are bigger than maybe what you find in other bigger cities in the rest of the country. Nice onsen which is not too busy when i visit."

"Very good experience, nice comfortable beds, very spacious room with kitchen and laundry machine. It was definitely very convenient to have washing/drying machine in the bedroom, laundry detergent was provided, awesome! Over all very good, place is not fancy but it has everything you need. It was clean but cleaning needs improvement in some areas, specially shower door."

"The front desk are really helpful. I had problems with communications on my car bookings and Takayama tickets. They were so patient in helping me. If you are a foreign guest , this hotel is great. The rooms are spacious. The soft jazz music in the lounge is lovely. It’s location is great. Lots of good eateries nearby. Check out Cafe Basque for a lovely small restaurant with reasonable good Spanish food with good vibes. Prices are decent. "

"The hotel is comfortable, clean and close the station. 10 minute walk to the town. Our room was spacious and had a safe, microwave, hob, fridge-freezer and a washing machine. There was a separate toilet, and wet room. There is a 7 11 across the road. The hotel has a public onsen that good. Good value for money"

"Very friendly staff. Convenient in its location with a good price. One point though - I arrived without a dog... It let's for us since after all as much as it is clean it's still a place with dog standatds cleanliness... Also, I haven't reserved food and there are no restraints around the existing shop has very limited non-dog food. But I liked the place 🙂 it was cute and as I mentioned the staff were very nice and helpful."

"The Machiya Hotel was one of our favorite places to stay during our trip. We appreciated the kindness of the staff and the homey feel of the common areas. The rooms here modern, well designed and had everything we needed. It was so nice to be able to quietly sip tea and the provided sweets after a long day of exploring. The hotel is clean, staff were super kind. They have free drinks each evening in the lounge and offer both western or Japanese breakfast for a fee. "Miyama Ouan offers an authentic Japanese cultural experience in beautiful high country/alpine location. Meals were of a variety of ingredients, delicious and always beautifully presented. Miyama Ouan rooms are very comfortable, warm, beautifully cleaned, with private and public onsen. The Hirayu location is in close proximity for bush walking, sight seeing, and to the cable car and bear ranch. "

"Bosenkan mean Riverview Inn, and it really offers a fine view of the Hida River. This is a traditional Japanese style place, with tatami mat rooms, nice yukata robes for guests, and a very nice indoor outdoor communal bath. I highly recommend it if you are staying in Gero Onsen, one of Japan's big three famous spas."

"The staff provided excellent service. The hot springs were beautiful and relaxing. Both the dinner and breakfast meals were plentiful, served in a nice semi-private setting, and offered items that were unique. My only complaint is that there was an unpleasant smell in the area. I believe may have been sulphur from the hot springs. It was not only at the property, but also at other places we visited in the area."
