Great place to stay. Lousy experience with Expedia
Posted 1 Dec 2017The hotel and staff were great.
The only issue faced was during check in. The hotel claims that they had informed Expedia that there are no longer any rooms available, but Expedia seems to auto confirm on the rooms to guests.
I was lucky the management managed to squeeze a room to accommodate me.
The room was clean and no problems with the facilities. The restaurant had a great view of kathmandu and if you're lucky with the weather, you can catch a glimpse of the mountains.

Extremely friendly family-run hotel with view

Pros: Excellent Nepali and Newari food; laundry available; view from dining deck; excellent in-room fan; help with taxis; just generally friendly staff.
Cons: Hot water not always available for showering (but cold shower refreshing in warm weather); rooms not serviced daily, but quick response to all "asks".
Location: 10-minute walk to Tribhuvan University; interesting temples and houses to explore up hill from hotel; good walking on Kirtipur Ring Road below.
Stay at Kirtipur Hillside if you like to get to know folks from other cultures and/or your hoteliers! Ajaya and Vijay are more interested in getting to know you than in simply increasing profits. The walls also display some of Ajaya's incredible artwork. Breakfast is included in room price, and custom-prepared to your individual order. Dinners are made with care by all family members, inexpensive, and served on the covered outdoor deck. Local highlight of the trip, for me, was wandering the streets and alleys of the neighborhood of the hill above the hotel; no crowds, and the local tourist office can find you a guide if you like. For Kathmandu touring, staff will call you a taxi, and help you get a good rate. ATM is just down the hill, as well as shopping and banks. Finally, you can't beat this location if you are interacting with faculty and students at Tribhuvan University.
