Good stay with nice helful staff, though food could be better
by Kate from England
This hotel overrated and extortionate.

Pros: Beds were of good quality, also sanitary ware. The waiters and junior staff excellent, management poor. Beach spoilt by dilapidated beach bar
Cons: Food, hygiene, decor, competant reception staff, management (never saw any). Hotel rundown, depressing shambolic. Overcrowded noisy small pools.
Location: Kilifi is on very beautiful creek with water sports and many other interesting things to do but not at this hotel.
Paying more than twice the cost of "all in" package at the other, far superior, hotel in Kilifi , we were appalled at the poor quality of the food and required to pay for all drinks including bottled water at meals. The dinning room was gloomy and in need of a complete clean and re-decorate. The varnish had peeled off most of the chairs and tables, the woven tablemats were marked and dirty, the same dust and dead insects decorated the window sill beside our table for the whole two weeks. The small outside eating area was the home to five feral cats who not only sat howling under our table at meals but also sat on the chairs and tables, on top of the cutlery and napkins and these were not replaced. The plates were chipped and of differing patterns.
The chefs did their best with bad basic materials by providing good interesting sauces but the meat was almost all bone, fat and gristle, potatoes and eggs stale, fish dry and tasteless and all protein was served in minute proportions. The breakfast was the worst meal with bacon served in two inch strips on two days out of fourteen, brick like chicken sausages, stale tasting fried potatoes and very limited fruit selection, and for the first week the "chef" was unable to fry an egg. The presentation of food was dreadful , foil covered unheated aluminium containers on a buffet covered with a dirty cloth. And COLD. We only ate here four nights having paid for fourteen!

Getaway for Couples or Families
Posted 4 Jan 2012 on HotelsThe hotel is located about an hour away from the International airport but once you are there, there is no need to find the noise of the city. It has 2 swimming pools and couples or families with children will really enjoy it. The beach is the best quality of the hotel. It is long and clean white sand. Good for long walks, jogging or just playing in the ocean. The food was good and the made sure that both meat eaters and vegetarians were accommodated. There are no phone is the room, so any requests had to be made in person at the reception. The rooms were clean and some upgrades needed on the showers, sinks and toilets. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, we had a good stay.

Awful - do not stay here!
Posted 3 Oct 2011The Mada chain website gives this hotel a lovely glowing write up, plus four shiny stars! However it is a run-down seedy 2 star at best. The rooms are filthy - and unsafe. Door and windows don't lock properly, outside lights aren't working, and the furniture in the bedroom is all a 70's mismatch with rusty shower head and taps in the bathroom. The tea and coffee making facilities consisted of a chipped saucer containing a few tea bags and a couple of bags of sugar, plus a rusty kettle. No milk - and the fridge was broken anyway. As was the overhead fan... On check-in the receptionist actually told me I'd been upgraded! I dread to think of the state of the other rooms... DO NOT STAY HERE - it's horrendous.
