This ancient Hawai’ian haven on the Kona coast sits on a beautiful shoreline dotted with temples, schools of magnificent manta rays and luxurious resorts.

Keauhou is a coastal Kona village that weaves together the  culture of ancient Hawai’i with the leisure and relaxation of a resort area. Find out why this village was a playground for the Hawai’ian royals with its scenic lava-rock coast, Mount Hualalai views and restored temples. Watch the sunset over the ocean before embarking on a nighttime dive with majestic manta rays.

Learn about the area’s cultural significance to the ancient Hawai’ians and how it shaped modern Hawai’i. Visit the Keauhou Kahalu’u Heritage Center, located inside the Keauhou Shopping Center, or one of the area’s interpretive centers to learn about Keauhou’s sacred ancient sites and historical landmarks. Catch one of the cultural performances held at the Heritage Center, such as a hula show.

Ancient temples are dotted along the shoreline. Discover the intriguing Hapaiali’i Heiau (Temple for Elevating Chiefs), a flat stone monolith jutting out from the rock pools near Kahalu’u Beach Park.

Keauhou is famous for its abundant underwater world. Kayak along the shoreline to take in the sights of the dramatic lava-rock coastline. See green sea turtles swimming in tide pools during the day and schools of graceful manta rays feeding on plankton at night. Watch as the resorts on the shore light up the magnificent rays with spotlights or take an awe-inspiring nighttime dive with snorkel or scuba equipment. Night dives depart from the beach north of Honokohau Harbor.

Explore the world-famous Kona coffee-growing region in the picturesque Hualalai mountainside. Take a daytrip to scenic Kahalu’u Bay or discover how Hawai’i’s most valued coffee variety is grown, harvested and processed on a coffee farm tour. Enjoy a fresh cup of the aromatic brew, straight from the farm.

Keauhou is located 6.2 miles (9.9 kilometers) south of Kailua in the Kona region of Hawai’i’s Big Island. Reach this charming resort village by car, charter tour or boat. Enjoy almost year-round sunny weather in Kona. Avoid the region’s humid summers by visiting between September and November.
