It was so lovely stepping back in time it felt very appropriate for our stay at the blue mountains. A beautiful well cared for historic home in a peaceful setting. I will definitely be back!

The attention to detail, property charm and the hospitality we received was a standout. We had a lovely trip and would recommend to anyone wanting a meaningful break where quality, great service and originality matter.

Very welcoming hosts, quirky old guesthouse, full of antiques. Particularly liked the free help yourself port nightcap in the lounge.

Hi Nigel,Thanks for your positive comments and it looks like the port was a big hit - yay! Kurrara is a quirky old guest house. Built in 1901 and opened it's doors to the public in 1902. Quite a long history as a guest house. We've spent the last 12 years restoring the building to its former glory in keeping with the period and it's been great fun. Hope you'll drop by again.Best Iain & Evelyn

A lovely old guest house, conveniently located, friendly and efficient staff, and tariff includes a tasty breakfast.

Beyond our expectations

Posted 7 Mar 2024 on Hotels
Our stay was beyond our expectations. The Kurrara is a lovely, quaint old style guest house that has a lot of charm and character. It is very comfortable and the breakfast was quite good. It is also situated close to the Three Sister tracks and the old town with shopping and restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and met other couples who were staying at the Guest House.

Thank you Bob for writing a great review. So many of the old guest houses have disappeared since their heyday at the turn of the century, when guests boarded the train in Sydney to come up and take the air! And Katoomba was known as the honeymoon capital! Such a rich history here in the beautiful Blue Mountains and worthy of being preserved for all to enjoy! Hope you'll return some day.Best Iain & Evelyn

Breakfast at a weekend only available 08:00-09:00am not acceptable for a relaxing weekend away even at a guest house charging $100/ night not one charging $300/ night Check in on a Friday evening only available until 19:00 again not acceptable. Reception not actually open, had to phone then wait 5 minutes at 17:00. These times seem to be organised for the convenience of the owners not the guests. Don't book the Deluxe Double Room, 1 King Bed, Non Smoking, Ground Floor. Its next door to the Guest lounge / breakfast room and you will get woken up at 06:30 by breakfast the noise of staff walking about preparing the guest lounge for breakfast. Spa bath was grubby and lethally slippery. Decanter of port in the bedroom a nice touch though.

Dear Guest,We regret that your stay with us did not meet your expectations. I am aware that we were unable to offer you a check-in time of 10.30pm on a Friday night and suspect that our refusal may have set the tone for your review. Rules are in place to ensure the comfort of all our guests who sometimes retire early, and we do not run a 24-hr Reception as found in large hotels. Terms & conditions are clearly visible upon booking, and it is wise to read them before booking any venue to avoid disappointment. Incidentally the breakfast shift only starts at 7.30am not 6.30am as per your review. Breakfast is available from 8.00-9.00am and is included in the tariff but is not compulsory and there are many great cafes nearby. The marks that you refer to in the spa bath as being grubby were in fact burn marks from a candle, and it is scheduled for replacement. It appears that the decanter of port was a plus! Excellent and glad that you enjoyed it.Best Iain & Evelyn

Delightful period property, and the hosts couldn’t be better, very helpful and attentive, the only place I think I’d ever consider when coming to Katoomba. It’s a 20 min walk from the train station and a 5 min walk to the Prince Henry Cliff Walk round to Echo Point, which is a must if you come here Can’t recommend highly enough

Charming Victorian guest house that has been restored to its former glory. Well done and friendly inn keepers with great recommendations for restaurants and local attractions.
