Kata Noi Beach

This small and often overlooked beach is actually an idyllic little piece of paradise.

Kata Noi, literally meaning “small” Beach, is a world away from the larger tourist beaches on busy Phuket Island. This 800-metre-long beach is often completely deserted, though this is no reflection of its beauty. Often said to be one of the prettiest beaches in Phuket, it’s more to do with its location – on a stretch between two headlands at the end of a dead-end street – in other words, on a road to nowhere. In fact, it’s less than a kilometre south of Kata itself, which makes it easily accessible if you’re looking for some respite away from the bustle.

Families can have peace of mind as it’s one of the safest beaches on the island for swimming and it’s also away from the busy nightclubs and bars. The water here is calm, warm and crystal clear for much of the year, and there are very few jet skis or surfboards around. If you’re visiting between May and October, hire a snorkel and explore the underwater world of the tropical fish and stunning coral nestling amongst the rocks at the south end of the beach. Treat yourself to a relaxing massage from one of the shacks dotted along the shoreline, or simply grab a sun lounger, lie back with a book and soak up the sunshine.

If you want to stay for a while, there are plenty of luxury resorts, hotels or bungalows nearby. Many of the town’s restaurants are part of the largest resort, Katathani Phuket Beach Resort, where visitors can dine on local seafood or enjoy international cuisine. For a romantic meal, Mom Tri’s Kitchen is a popular fine-dining restaurant perched above the rocks on the hill towards Kata, which boasts views across the bay and an extensive wine list. For more relaxed dining, there are a few local family-friendly restaurants in town, and sun lounger vendors sell snacks on the beach during the day.

Just 19 kilometres from Phuket Town along scenic ocean roads, Kata Noi Beach is a pretty drive and easy day trip for anyone looking to get away from it all.
