We arrived at 6 am, after an all-night bus ride from Yangon. The staff allowed us to check in and settle in to our room at that very early time. We were also able to have our breakfast then, knowing that although it was included with the room rate, if we chose to breakfast there again the next morning, the cost to us would be approx. $5. The breakfast is fine...eggs, tasteless white bread, toasted, sort of a thick crepe with honey, fresh papaya and coffee/tea. It was the same, the next day. The staff were very polite and helpful. The units were well kept and clean. The bed was fine, but the furniture in the units was solid wood bench type...not super comfortable for prolonged sitting/ reading or TV watching, but TV channels limited anyway and we were out and about a lot for the one day that we were there. We arranged our two-day hike, walked around Kalaw, and ate dinner at the nearby Happy Garden. Speaking of gardens, the grounds and gardens at the Serenity are really lovely and well-maintained.
Those arriving on the night bus from wherever, should know that this would be quite a hike from the bus drop...but there are trustworthy guys with motor-scooters who will take you and your bag/pack to your hotels, even in the dark early morning hours.
