Bring the whole family to the fountains, playgrounds and mansions of this vast park among the dense woodland and ponds.

Kadriorg Park is Tallinn’s main green space, containing several of its most iconic landmarks. Museums, monuments and gardens decorate the scenic grounds of the urban park, which covers an area of about 170 acres (70 hectares). Lay down a blanket for a picnic with a scenic backdrop of the main pond and the trees.

Among the highlights is Kadriorg Palace, an elegant chateau with light red walls and a green roof. Note that the park was initially inaugurated as part of this palace in 1718. Wander through its landscaped gardens and sit near the water fountain. Take a guided tour of the palace to learn about its history and browse the art in the Kadriorg Art Museum. The gallery specializes in foreign works from the 16th to 20th centuries and has workshops for kids.

Visit the museum’s nearby counterpart, the Kumu Art Museum, at the southeastern point of the park. Note how subtly the sleek, shiny design of the building harmonizes with nature. Learn of the Pallas Art School and examine classic Estonian works from the 18th century until World War II.

Take advantage of the bright weather on sunny days for a stroll beside the rectangular Swan Pond. Its fountain and gazebo are popular hangouts for birds. Enjoy the lively setting of the floral displays along the pond’s shores. Monuments, such as those dedicated to sculptor Amandus Adamson and artist Jaan Koort, decorate the pleasant promenades that meander through the grounds.

Take a break from sightseeing with hot beverages and snacks at a café. Appreciate the tranquility of the Japanese-style garden, with its large rocks and water features.

Note that it is free to enter the park, which remains open at all times. The museums each have their own hours.

Find Kadriorg Park in the eastern section of the city. It is easy to access due to its eponymous tram station and the many bus stops surrounding the park. Visit nearby landmarks, such as the Russalka Memorial to the north and the southern Kadriorg Stadium.
