Take a weekend break in Jyllinge to explore this charming and idyllic town in eastern Zealand, with its wealth of historic sights, wonderful scenery with footpaths, beaches along Roskilde Fjord and lots of activities for the whole family. Jyllinge Marina is a massive attraction for tourists during the summer, as it’s one of the biggest marinas in the Ise and Roskilde Fjords.
The old town of Jyllinge can be dated all the way back to the Stone Age. It was a mix between a village and a fishing port until the 1930s, where fishermen went out daily to fish in the waters of Roskilde Fjord. It became a popular area for city dwellers to buy or build summer houses in the 1950s and it retains its relaxed atmosphere, beautiful scenery and breath-taking views to this day. Famous artists such as H. A. Brendekilde and H. O. Brasen drew inspiration from Jyllinge for their works.
Any visit to Jyllinge must include Jyllinge Marina. The old, well-preserved houses jostling with the modern buildings contribute to the harbour atmosphere. Relax, enjoy the view over the fjord at one of the sea front restaurants or take a scintillating swim on the little beach sandwiched between the marina and the old fishing port.
Explore Jyllinge with a walk through the old port and the old town. Follow Langeløbet to Bygaden to arrive at the Fjordmuseet, home to exhibits featuring hunting, fishing and village life. Continue south to arrive at Klinten, where you can enjoy the intimate beach with its own pier for swimmers.
Your stay in Jyllinge can easily include a visit to Denmark’s first capital, Roskilde. Drive there via Rute6 in just 20minutes or take the train – a ride of around 25minutes.
A holiday to Jyllinge gives you the chance to experience a genuine village atmosphere in the old fishing port whilst surrounded by wonderful scenery. The short distance to Roskilde also means access to even more attractions for the entire family.
