Threatened by guest for room in front of host.

Was threatened by another guest in front of host and was told it was a joke. I was told he would throw me from the stairs. The guest repeated himself three times and jammed the keyway of the door so I could not enter my room. The host supported his actions by explaining he had a good character reference. I left the place after the next day and threatened them with legal action......it' a shame people don't under hate speech is not funny and should not be tolerated.

What can I say when Leon, who arrived the previous day and seemed to be happy and funny, meets a total stranger in the foyer of the guest house where another guest and I were present. I introduced them because they were staying on the same floor - they started talking and joking - I thought 2 strangers had clicked and got on well, but I did not know that Leon had been on heavy medication for mental illness and was under a lot of stress because he had been out of work for over 2 years. The other guest wrote this letter of apology which was forwarded to Leon: Thank you for bringing to my attention, my lack of tact and insensitivity in the way I engaged with one of your guests last night. Please extend my humblest and sincerest apology to this gentleman. I realize that it was not quite honestly the best approach, given the fact that I do not know him whatsoever and did not stop to consider that it could be offensive and possibly even threatening too. In my defense, my bantering was genuinely in jest and I am truly sorry that it was taken up in the wrong way and caused him anxiety and stress. This is the last thing I had in mind. Once again I apologize and hope that this will put him at ease. Guests who read this review and multiple other reviews about our guest house on other platforms can decide for themselves what they make of this review. Every guest is important and get treated that way and we try our best to make everyone happy. I sincerely hope Leon books himself into a medical facility where he will get the correct treatment, help and mental health support to address his anxiety problem because he said "this is not the first time he had experienced something like this" and he "knows how to fight". A history of anxiety and paranoia together with heavy medication can alter one's judgement of the reality.

Beautiful, well maintained building . Elna was an exceptional host and a great start to our time in South Africa, she was very accomadating and drove us down the street for breakfast to meet our tour guide. We arrived late and were hungry and she gave us all the info to order food quickly and easily. The views from the room were spectacular. Would highly recommend the orangerie foe stays in Jo’burg ! Thanks Elna you made it that much better!

"Diamond in The Rough"

perfect stay

Pros: everything
Cons: not anything I can think of... maybe a warmer temperature for the pool?
Great view, very nice owner, super clean, overall great stay--- usually I'm very skeptical when the reviews for a place are all positive, but this place is actually great! If I ever visit Johannesburg again, I will definitely stay here :)
