The Jardin des Plantes is a fun and spacious park with a playground, ponds and a waterfall. Lying in the heart of Toulouse, the park is an oasis of green vegetation and a picturesque haven for tranquility. Meander along the paths connecting the large patches of grass.
Bring a basket of food for a picnic in the sun on the well-kept lawn. Stay cool in the shade of the trees and bushes. The park stretches across 17 acres (7 hectares) of scenic terrain. Take photos of one of the charming fountains between the trees. Attend some of the events and activities in the park, including a fair with rides for kids.
Sit at one of the many benches facing the woods and read a book in this calm setting. Admire the array of colorful flower beds planted on the patches of grass. Go jogging in the morning or join a yoga or Zumba class in this popular spot. Take a pony ride around the park.
Relax near the stream on the park’s southern flank and watch the ducks and swans. Let your kids frolic on the climbing frame in the nearby playground. At the northern end of the gardens, climb the stylish bridge adorned with plants. Cross the bridge to reach the Square Boulingrin on the other side of the road.
Note that these landscape gardens date back around 200 years. The park, which is free to enter, opens daily from early morning until late evening, with shorter hours in winter. Make use of the public restrooms at the southern side of the park.
The Jardin des Plantes is adjacent to the Square Boulingrin, a little southeast of the town center of Toulouse. Take the metro to the Palais de Justice stop and walk east for less than 10 minutes to arrive here. Explore other sights in the area, such as the Muséum de Toulouse, the Théâtre Sorano and the Théâtre du Grand Rond.
