Fair price for a budget hotel but poor curtains.
Posted 7 Feb 2019 on HotelsCheck-in was quick and easy. The room was clean and comfortable. WiFi was workable. The "curtain" was not as wide as the window, and this should be addressed. Breakfast was adequate. There are plenty of restaurants within a very short walk. I feel that I paid a fair price for our room, and so I would be happy to stay there again.

A very basic but clean and friendly stay. We enjoyed our room and the views were gorgeous. Fair warning, the hostel is a decent walk from the main docks.

I stayed at Hostal del Sol for one night. It is right at the top of Isla del Sol so it is a bit of a trek from the harbor but it was rather easy to find with the help of offline Google maps.
The room I had booked had some bugs in it but I was able to change to another room free of charge. The wifi works only in one part of the hostel, not so well in rooms. But the wifi exists nevertheless!
The water in the shower is warm but the shower is located sort of outside so be prepared for a bit of a chilly and refreshing experience!
The breakfast was very basic, crackers with butter and jam with tea and coffee.
All in all the hostel is very basic. It is one of the cheapest ones on the Island, serves well for 1 or 2 nights.

Great hotel. The highest one on the island but definitely worth the hike up with bags. Very close to mirador so great panoramic views for sunrise/sunset. Good breakfast too.

Quaint hostal at the top of Isla del Sol
Posted 5 Sep 2017 on HotelsHostal del Sol is located at the top of Isla del Sol. As we were unaccustomed to the altitude, and because we were travelling with all of our backpacks, it took us a good 45 minutes to reach the hostal from the Yumani port due to the climb. However, the climb was worth it and the hostal was at the foot of a hill that offered amazing views. The hostal was also located close to some great restaurants with fantastic views as well (would recommend the Inti Jalanta restaurant - the grilled trout is fresh and surprisingly tasty). It is a little bit hard to find, but if you ask the locals, they are friendly and will point you in the right direction. Once you reach the restaurant, find the yellow house behind the restaurant, and go to the back through the gate on the right to find the "office".
The hostel has bare basics - a place to sleep, a washroom, electricity and some wi-fi. The room was decently comfortable, although the shower can only provide hot water through a heating element. Getting hot water means limiting the water flow in order for the heating element to heat up the water sufficiently before it comes out of the shower head. This means that the water pressure will be low, but having a warm shower on the island wasn't bad at all.
The wi-fi was available, but it is certainly better at the restaurant where breakfast was served. Even at the restaurant, the wi-fi wasn't really fast, but one can do some surfing.
Overall, a pretty good hostel.

Great location
Posted 11 Jun 2017 on HotelsGreat location, although be prepared for a long climb to the hostel. Due to the altitude the climb can be quite taxing, especially if you have heavy luggage. Staff member met us at the boat and then took us to the hostel - useful as it would be tricky to find. Recommend paying in full prior to arrival as there are no ATM's on the island. Staff have very limited English. Showers were not hot at our time of stay

Ok for 1 night
Posted 22 Jul 2016 on HotelsThe stay was average. No wifi. Basic room. Barely warm shower. Not worth the price we paid. Had to go up a steep hill for 30 mins. Was very hard. Good breakfast though, fresh bread and cheese, jam and butter, coffee and tea. The host was very pleasant, but we didn't see much of her.

Not worth the price
Posted 17 Jun 2016 on HotelsI stayed for 2 nights in Hostal del Sol. The Hostal was a 45 minute walk uphill, fortunately, they had donkeys for the price of US$3 per bag. The location was great for the views and the good restaurants on the island. However, you should consider whether your fitness level allows you to walk continuously uphill for such a long time.
This is the end of the good things I have to say about the hostel. Breakfast was extremely basic and the room hadn´t been cleaned so the floor was dirty. I had a private bathroom and when I switched on the tap for the first time a dead moth floated out of the sink. The toilet also had obviously not been cleaned. The water in the shower was lukewarm and way too cold for the island at night. After catching a chill on my first night, I opted to wait until I got to a better hotel before I showered. The wifi could not be accessed by more than 1 device at a time, so I spent most of my time without wifi and was unable to check or confirm my subsequent trips.
While this might be the usual standard of hostels on the island, it was clearly not worth US$39 per night. Find a cheaper hostel or a hostel with more consistently good reviews if you are going to stay on the island.
