Without question, this was the worst hotel I've stayed in, in years. There was no manager on duty when we arrived (late afternoon - certainly not off-hours), so one of the bartenders had to check us in - and she seemed put out by it. The room had not been cleaned properly; there was a *USED* condom in the bathroom!!!! And, the drain in the *tiny* shower stall didn't work. Again; no manager to be found, so I had to deal with another rude bar server again. They took care of removing the condom and said they'd have the manager fix the drain but we stayed there two nights and no follow up from anyone about the drain. When it came time to order a meal, we selected something specific from the menu, only to have something entirely different come out. The server rudely insisted that this was absolutely what we'd ordered. When we pushed back and said it wasn't, she said fine, she'd go fix it to what we wanted and then walked off...leaving the question; if she was going to 'fix it to what we wanted', then she knew she'd brought the wrong food out in the first place. Location is "ok"; quiet and all, but not very close to downtown where the sights and scenery are. Parking is almost non-existent, as the bar patrons fill up the small parking lot, leaving not much available for those staying overnight. Avoid this hotel at all costs!

Nice mixture of old and new.

Pros: Rooms were clean and comfortable even though small. Great shower.
Cons: New decorative pillows on bed - current ones were old and could not have been cleaned. Queen beds would be better than double.
Location: Walk to Castle Pub, street shopping, indoor shopping center. Little Italy Restaurant was the best and walkable. Little grocery/ post office near.
Staff was very willing to chat and very charming. Food was excellent in pub as well as in restaurant. Walkable to Castle, shopping center.

We were much happier with our 2nd visit. The room was cleaner and better appointed. The noise at night was also lessened. The mattress was much better in this room.

The hotel was absolutely charming. The pub was cozy with a fireplace. The people were very friendly and helpful. In fact almost all the people we met in Scotland were the friendliest, most helpful people we've ever met.

Check in was unusual. No central area to check in. The mattress was lumpy and quite terrible to sleep on.There was a lot of traffic noise at night. Breakfast was good.
