Hollywood Wax Museum

One of the longest-running wax museums in the U.S. offers a star-studded day that will have you feeling like you’re hanging out with your idols.

The Hollywood Wax Museum provides a chance to see some of your favorite celebrities up close. Made from wax, these lifelike models are fashioned after celebrities and dressed in the iconic costumes of some of the world’s most famous actors, politicians and sports stars. Get a closer look at these full-size wax sculptures that resemble the well-known people you’d expect to see around Hollywood.

Walk along the red carpet to imagine what it’s like for the actors attending the Oscars or other movie award ceremonies. While the lineup in the museum changes regularly, you’re always likely to see figures of the biggest stars, such as Elvis Presley and Samuel L. Jackson.

Snap photos of your kids singing or acting alongside their idols. Several sections provide props and accessories, encouraging visitors to dress up like their heroes. Make your way through the horror section to spot some of the ghastliest ghouls from fiction. The setting and lighting really bring these models to life.

Read the various plaques beside the models to find out unusual facts about the celebrities. You’ll get an insight into their inner lives, learning about their pets and hobbies. The museum was opened in 1965 by legendary entrepreneur Spoony Singh. It remains in his family today.

Purchase tickets at the door or online and get discounts for kids. Toddlers can enter the site for free, while VIP passes are available that include the Guinness World Records Museum and Ripley’s Believe It or Not! The museum opens daily from morning until about midnight.

The Hollywood Wax Museum stands on Hollywood Boulevard, which runs through the center of the district. From Downtown Los Angeles, drive northwest for 8 miles (13 kilometers) or ride a couple buses. While you’re on this lively street, head to some of its other gems, including the Egyptian Theatre Hollywood, the TCL Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood Museum.
