Old Motel, Big Price

Posted 11 Jun 2013
Pros: It was close to the Art Fair we were going to, and the lake was lovely.
Cons: The price was exorbitant. Of course we didn't realize it was the start of Bike Week - there were motorcyclists with a skull on the trailer....
Location: Boating, hiking.
Needed a hotel room, this looked awesome - billed as a cabin on the lake. We got there and it was a 1960's motel, small rooms, no a/c. Our "porch" was a screened in area at the back of the room. It was cold -- and we could't figure out how to close the window in the bathroom without taking out the screen. Small room, very clean. Must say the lake and boat landing were spectacular -- good thing, as the "continental breakfast" didn't come with a place to eat it!! The owner was laconic -- guess that's typical for New Hampsha!

Great little spot on the nicest lake in central NH

Posted 11 Oct 2012
Pros: Lake is right out back, free canoes, kayaks, nice owners, Loons on the lake.
Location: On a lake where On Golden Pond was filmed- water quality is pristine
This is an older but very well maintained property on a lovely clear lake in central NH. "On Golden Pond' was filmed here and the lake is restful and great for families with kids or couples on romantic getaway. The folks who own it take obvious pride in its appearance and are always available if anything is needed. It is not fancy, but very clean and nicer than most rustic hotels I've seen. There is fresh coffee and breakfast snacks ready early. The units have heat for early fall and a lovely screened porch facing the lake so you can play cards. The price is very good. We stayed at peak foliage and it was very affordable. They also have summer weekly rates that are very very affordable. Free use of canoes, kayaks and a lovely sandy beach are less than 75 feet from all units and there is a great General Store nearby (has great breakfast food and good wine selection) and an outstanding restaurant less than 1/2 mile away. This is a taste of NH and Squam lake from another era at a great price.

Rustic and comfortable

Posted 15 Jun 2012
We loved it, very old fashioned place (which may not please a lot of people) , but we loved the rustic setting and appearance. Rooms were spare but comfy, liked the little porches overlooking the lake and enjoyed the use of the boats they have there for guests.
