Gaze up at the stunning light and water show at the fountain and hold hands on a romantic stroll through this charming park.

Heartland of America Park is a set of glorious riverside grounds known for its iconic fountain and light show. It comprises a roofed terrace area overlooking the river and a labyrinth of walkways bending around patches of well-kept grass. Visit the park’s range of exhibits relating to Lewis and Clark and the region’s military history, among other themes.

Stroll around the perimeter of the pretty lake in the heart of the park and feed the ducks and swans. Relax on a set of stones near the lake and see the cute red lighthouse. Admire the majesty of the park’s three fountains in the lake. The main water feature blasts jets of water 320 feet (98 meters) into the air. Watch the fountain at night, when its mesmerizing water and light show takes place.

Look up at the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge to the west of the park. See it at night, when it is illuminated and reflected in the Missouri River. Dotted around the park are statues related to such themes as World War II and the Trans-Mississippi Exposition. Look for the Airborne Memorial too.

Reserve a ride in a Venetian-style gondola by booking online in advance. Consider the history of this 31-acre (12-hectare) park, where explorers Lewis and Clark allegedly discovered earthen mounds indicating earlier settlement. The park itself opened in 1990, following the demolition of the Jobbers Canyon Historic District.

The park opens daily from early morning until almost midnight, although the fountain closes in winter. The site is free to enter.

Heartland of America Park is on the bank of the Missouri River in eastern Omaha. Ride a bus to one of the stops alongside the park or walk here from the Old Market in a few minutes. See other attractions here, including Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park and Lewis and Clark Landing.
