The hotel is in need of refurbishment for the bedrooms. Stair carpet etc is wearing thin and the bedroom furniture is looking tired

Worked well with helpful staff.Dog friendly and good atmosphere. Food good but not outstanding. Continental breakfast limited and not imaginative...powdered coffee!

We stayed at The Grove just after the new ground floor rooms were built and we very much enjoyed our stay. The menu was far superior to what we have just experienced spending 3 nights at the Grove. The current menu is an“everything with chips” menu. Room 3 had a comfy bed ,plenty of space but the en suite was looking well used.

A lovely place, with a great location. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the staff were quite courteous and helpful. The only regrettable things about my stay were largely outside their control, and probably specific to my room. A refrigerated lorry was parked directly outside my window; its compressor wasn’t terribly loud, but ran constantly. In the afternoon, I suspect as they were getting the pub ready for business, the smells from the kitchen were quite noticeable in my room so I had to keep my window shut. Finally, there was a very large, very vocal murder of crows in the local trees. Nothing they could do about that!
These are nits. It’s still a lovely property, well located in a lovely town.

We really enjoyed our stay and even though it’s clear the rooms need a bit of TLC, we felt very comfortable. The staff were great. My only “complaint” was the Wednesday breakfast. I paid for a continental breakfast only to be told there were no pastries, little bread, no milk (they did pop out and buy it!), no fruit and hardly any butter. Literally, the only thing available was porridge in a pot that took hot water. Granted, I then asked for a refund and bought a classic breakfast, but there were ingredients missing from that too! The continental breakfast shouldn’t have been offered as an option to purchase when there was nothing to eat. But apart from that, the stay was great.
