With the exception of the initial check in - I found the staff to be extremely un trained and un focused - the bar staff spoke to me as why are you stood here - when clearly I want to order a drink and food ,. They then ALL proceeded to investigate why the coffee machine wasn’t working … I wanted a wine and the other man at the bar wanted a whisky !! So I couldn’t understand the focus on the coffee machine .. after my meal I was asked if I wanted to see the desert menu - it never materialised so I just left .. I over heard the breakfast staff letting another couple know the Buffett was going to close but no body bothered to speak to me !! the room was grubby - stained walls in the bath room and bedroom - the cleaner doesn’t like edges of the floor - no water in the room . The picture have been taken down and just left with screws in the wall . The room was very cold as no body had switched the radiator on .. On numerous occasions the staff were huddled in groups and just turned their back on waiting customers - even myself . This is the second time I have complained about a dirty room - but they didn’t seem that interested . I suppose if they fill the hotel with non returning wedding guests why would they be concerned with a single visitor who uses the hotel regularly for a global company on business - .. You also can’t go anywhere around the hotel without the smell of weed !! The second floor stunk in the corridor -

I am pleased to hear that you have found our reception staff to be helpful and focused on their tasks. I am however disappointed to hear about the negative points that have impacted on your stay - those being mainly surrounding the food & beverage team, which I will raise with their manager so this can be improved upon and training given where required. I will also raise the cleanliness you've pointed out with the house keeping manager, so they too can improve and give training where necessary. In terms of the remarks made about smelling weed in the hotel, this will certainly be investigated as we hold a zero-tolerance towards drug use in our property. The hotels room was a tad rundown for a 4* hotel,but is been renovated next yr but the rest of the hotel is excellent and food is gorgeous I don't like fish much but I ate fish and mussy peas for 3 nights as I've never had batter so light thin and crispy even after a dose of vinegar I don't eat chips so I asked for extra peas no problem at all. Breakfast nice too especially the poached eggs rich and creamy egg yoke,plenty to see and a half decent charger for my car too.overal I'm going to revisit after the refit next year as it's worth the 300mile round trip for 3 nights or so .staff very friendly and can't do enough for you thankyou all smiths hotel

We had an amazing time in the Cottage it was beautiful, spacious & very clean & literally across the road from the wedding venue & the hotel is also 2 minutes walk away.
