This city in the picturesque heartland of North Carolina is known for its beautiful landscapes, family attractions and the significant role it played in the War of Independence.

Visit Greensboro to discover family attractions, historic monuments and attractive scenery, all with the charm and friendliness of the South.

Greensboro is famous for its scenic beauty with many nearby forests, mountains and public parks. To get closer to nature, take the elevated boardwalk that meanders through the wetland of the Bog Garden and walk along the paths of the Gateway Gardens, which span 11 acres (4.45 hectares). Visit the Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden to see bronze sculptures and masses of colorful plantings.

Families shouldn’t miss Greensboro’s child-friendly attractions. Experience the thrills of more than 30 rides and slides at the Wet ‘n Wild Emerald Pointe water park. Stimulate your children’s inquisitive nature at the Greensboro Science Center, a combined aquarium, museum and zoo. Go to Celebration Station, an amusement park with go-karts, bumping boats and miniature golf.

Learn about the role Greensboro played in American history at the city’s museums. Tour the Greensboro Historical Museum to learn about a pivotal battle in the American War of Independence. Discover the part Greensboro played in the advancement of civil rights by visiting the International Civil Rights Museum. In 1960, four African-American students sat at a “whites only” lunch counter in this very building, the former F. W. Woolworth store. Refused service, they held a peaceful sit-in protest that spread throughout the country. See the original counter in the museum.

In the evenings, enjoy a glass of stout in an Irish pub, dine in an upmarket restaurant and dance in one of the live music clubs downtown.

Greensboro is 12 miles (19 kilometers) from Piedmont Triad International Airport. Getting around Greensboro is easy with the efficient bus system. To explore the cities around Greensboro, use the Piedmont Area Regional Transportation's bus service or rent a car from one of the numerous companies in the area.
