Rural inn, with rooms in former cow barn that have been cleverly redone. Good buffet breakfast. Quiet and pretty space.

It's been the fourth time I stayed at the Gedney Farm. IT's gorgeous, beautiful setting, friendly hosts, amazing room with whirlpool in the old barn. I will come back!

The property was very pretty. The room had a new, well lit, beautiful bathroom. The rest of the room unfortunately was dark, damp and musty. A couple pieces of antique furniture were nice but upholstered furniture, mattress and bedding were in desperate need of replacement. The continental breakfast was very nice. It was a little too far from Great Barrington (20 min.) where we wanted to be. Would not recommend.

Hi Mitchell,Thank you for staying with us at Gedney Farm this past weekend. I appreciate your constructive feedback. You are correct about the sofa in the room where you stayed. It is on our list to be replaced. We had explored having it reupholstered because it is a well made piece of furniture, but it proved to be uneconomical to do so. While there is not much we can do to change our location, for many folks it proves to be a welcome respite to be removed from the traffic and congestion that can arise on busy weekends in Great Barrington. But you are correct, apart for the open space and nice walks, New Marlborough certainly does not offer the abundance of things to do that Great Barrington does.

We liked the setting. When we arrived via motorcycle, we attempted to follow the directions that were sent to us via email. We looked for the reception sign, but it was no where obvious. We had to find someone to ask where reception was. We located the tiny, vine covered "Reception" sign hanging over the inauspicious entry. Our room provided a dusty wardrobe which was clearly for ambiance. The bed felt as if it were about to collapse every time we moved. There was no door in the toilet room! The curtain on the side light was an upsidedown drape, and it was sheer. The "jacuzzi" was a single person, jetted bath tub (sitting next to the toilet room with no door!) Flying insects were in the room! Some dead ones were left where they were killed. No food or beverages until 5pm. Not good for travelers looking for a cold iced tea on a hot day; after traveling for several hours. Unfortunately, we were not impressed. One of the other guests jokingly said "it's like camping." We did not pay for a hotel room to "go camping." In the morning, the breakfast was nice. Fresh fruit and muffins, yogurt and granola, coffee and various teas. The one young lady in attendance was pleasant. Fortunately I speak some Spanish, making me able to communicate with her. We found the art display to be impressive. Overall, Gedney Farm was simply a place to sleep and will not be on our 'places to return to' list.

Hi Regina,Thank you for staying with us at Gedney Farm, and for taking the time to share your constructive feedback.I am sorry that your were not completely satisfied with your stay. We do provide our contactless check-in instructions to all of our guests in advance so that they can easily find their way to their rooms. We have been doing this for several years, and it has been our experience that these instructions are easy to navigate. The armoire in your room, like the furniture in all of our rooms is old, mostly regional American country furnishings, but I'm sorry it was dusty. It should not have been. All of our rooms have a private bathroom with a door that separates the bathroom from the bedroom. Inside the bathroom is a tub/shower or walk-in shower with a sink, and also a separate toilet room. We would not want to put a door inside the bathroom to separate the toilet room from the shower/tub sink area.In the passage way between the bedroom and bathroom, there is a custom 12 pane side light. The window treatment on this side light is a custom fabricated curtain. There is a top hem which holds a brass bar to hang the curtain, and a bottom hem on the floor to give weight to the curtain so that it remains on the floor and gives tension to the pleats. The fabric is a nice linen, not sheer, but intentionally translucent - so that some daylight filters through to make the passageway feel more open. Otherwise we would have simply omitted the sidelight and just had a partition wall.During your stay the weather was particularly hot and humid. The building is in fact a barn that was home to dairy cows, and that is surrounded by 50 acres of pastures and fields. There are going to be bugs, and some days are buggier than others., and this time of year, the doors to the outside are constantly being opened and closed as guests come in and out.. I am sorry that there were so many bugs in your room. We do try hard to combat their presence. Our restaurant is open with a full bar service starting at 5 pm. We always have large dispensers of fresh ice water available in the restaurant area as well as in the lobby of the lodging barn, where there is also a complimentary Keurig station so that guests can always find some refreshments.I am glad you appreciated our friendly staff and enjoyed the continental breakfast.
