Wander this long street famous for its gorgeous Victorian buildings then, as day turns to night, head to one of its buzzing restaurants, bars or clubs.

Grande Allée is one of Quebec’s liveliest day-to-night destinations. Set aside a few hours to explore this long, leafy street. Your path will be lined with stunning examples of architecture, including some buildings that house fascinating tourist attractions. Stay until the sun sets to see the sidewalks fill with a mix of locals and tourists, drawn to the street by its reputation for outstanding dining and dynamic nightlife.

The street has long been a popular spot. Its status as a place to see and be seen dates back to the 19th century, when it was a favorite area for some of the city’s wealthiest citizens to set up home. Look closely at the beautiful Victorian buildings that still stand along the street and notice how wonderfully intricate they are in their design.

Take a peek inside one of these residences by visiting the Henry Stuart House. This beautiful little house was built in 1849 and is now a museum showcasing interiors set up just as they would have been when a family really lived there. Wander from room to room, admiring the beautifully made dark wood furniture that dominates the space.

Afterward, see some of the tens of thousands of pieces on display at the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec. This gallery specializes in work created by local artists. Exhibits span a wide time period and include classic pieces as well as contemporary work. The museum is located in the Parc du Bois-de-Coulonge. Take advantage of being in this lush green space by stopping for a picnic.

In the evening, sit outside at one of the many bars, cafés and restaurants that offer pavement seating. Sip a cocktail or sample some of the outstanding cuisine that makes Grande Allée’s restaurants so well-known.

Grande Allée’s location in the heart of Quebec makes it easy to reach on foot from many of the tourist accommodations hot spots. If you’re located further out of central Quebec, travel by bus to one of the stops along the street. Free yourself from the need to drive home, so you can enjoy the street’s sparkling nightlife to the full.
