Wander the quaint streets and admire the beautiful surroundings of Going am Wilden Kaiser, an old farming village framed by the stunning mountain ranges of the Wilder Kaiser in the north and the Kitzbühel Alps in the south.
Five small settlements make up the municipality of Going: Schwendt, Aschau, Prama, Sonnseite and Schattseite. To reach winter snow, use the Ellmau-Going funicular to the SkiWelt slopes. Enjoy tobogganing runs, a natural ice-skating rink and trails for cross-country skiing, called Going Kaiserloipen. Tobogganing and snowshoe walking are particularly popular at nighttime, when you can race over the pristine snow under the moonlight of a clear winter night.
As part of the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser Brixental region, Going attracts visitors for winter sports, but the area is just as gorgeous in the long days of summer. Mountain springs feed the fresh waters of the Badesee Going, a lovely lake. Swim next to a green forest, race down the 330-foot (100-meter) outdoor slide or play a game of beach volleyball on the sandy bank.
Enjoy hiking trails for all fitness levels in these hills and fields. Climb the 200-foot-high (60-meter) Schleier Waterfall which is popular year-round and offers about 150 climbing routes, including many rated grade 10.
Going’s village center retains a classic alpine atmosphere you’ll come across delightful chalets throughout the town. One of the most famous is the Bio-Hotel Stanglwirt, a traditional lodge that was built 400 years ago with a pointed roof and shuttered windows it is now an upmarket hotel and restaurant serving typical alpine cuisine. Going’s Rococo church Zum Heiligen Kreuz has an intricate interior and a famous statue of the Virgin Mary from the late Gothic era.
