You get what you pay for

Posted 16 Jan 2018
Location: You are several miles from anything. No beach access within walking distance. Must rent a vehicle or taxi to get to where you want to go.
This is a place to put your head down and that's about it. Small cottage that has many miles on it. Beds and bedding were old and uncomfortable. Blanket consisted of a sleeping bag. Showers backed up into the tub. Air conditioner leaked onto the living room floor. It rained hard while we were there. had some time where we could not go anywhere. TV is broken. Looks like the coax cable was yanked out of the back. Back window was broken with a piece of plastic and tape over it. One very nice thing was the young lady who was our contact. She lives in one of the units and was very helpful. Answered all our questions and always greet you with a smile. We were there for a dive trip and where not expecting anything fancy. Just did not expect this from the pictures on the website.

Love this place!

Posted 24 May 2017 on Hotels
We had a wonderful time at Hoopers Bay Villas. The cottages are across the street from the beach and access is easy. We stayed in the Yellow Elder cottage. It had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. It is a little older and not perfect, but who cares with the low price we paid to be at a beautiful beach!? The hosts, William and Priscilla are lovely people and always available to help or answer questions. Loved they cute beach decor in the cottage. The cottages are also private. Loved having the outdoor shower as it kept the sand out of the cottage. We've stayed at three different places on the island and all were wonderful, but we think we will go back to Hoopers Bay Villas!

Very nice and clean. 3 minute walk to the beach.

Willy and P were more then happy to help with anything we needed while staying there. Everything at the house worked great and was spotless upon our arrival. We were looking for something with privacy and not a ton of people around, and this was perfect for that.

Shame

Posted 21 Mar 2016
Pros: The Villas location near the stunning beach and the Villas living room and kitchen. If the villa maintained well it would be wonderful.
Cons: The Beds, bathrooms, wifi, and the service that is advertised on their website to be delivered. Better maintenance.
Location: Fabulous Hoopers bay beach 2 minutes away with adorable swimming turtles.
The cottage is in a fantastic location, Living room and kitchen fine but all the beds unbearable! Broken old squeaky beds impossible for a good night sleep. After days of complaining they changed the mattress but then still the base frame was broken, Bathrooms run down in bad condition toilets blocked most days and we had to keep on asking for the plunger to be brought back. Second bathroom door wouldn't close. No local phone so had to call daily on the UK phone to get help. Internet about 20 mins a day and the reason we were given. It's an island though wifi worked well at other locations on the island. Dirty dishes were left in the dishwasher. Huge cockroach greeted us in the bathroom when we arrived. Kayaks we were told broken We were not given beach beds. We called before to ask if they had a beach umbrella they said yes when we got there they said no. Views from the porch was mainly trees with a lot of trash in between which was a shame. Very run down - Hope they raise their standards as the Villas would be lovely if they were maintained better. Exuma itself stunning, very friendly people but with no sleep it was hard to fully enjoy the vacation

Something has happened at Hoopers Bay

Posted 22 Feb 2016
Pros: Nothing at this point. I will say the caretaker was very polite.
Cons: The cottage has been trashed and needs a complete makeover.
Location: Stocking Island is terrific, quiet with a beautiful beach you can have almost to yourself. There really isn't much snorkeling unless you have a boat.
The place looks like it was trashed, possibly after hurricane Irene. Across the street is filled with trash. Most things inside are broken. Two outlets were uncovered and the smoke detectors had been removed. The drywall was badly beaten up and even falling from the kitchen ceiling. One cabinet pulled out of the wall as well as a towel bar in the bathroom. This place needs a serious rebuild before it could even be considered a two star. We only stayed one night out of the week we booked. We are still trying to get a refund!

great beach location, terrible bed, no wifi/tel

Posted 11 Jan 2015
Pros: The proximity to one of the best beaches on the whole island
Cons: Management need to inform guests that there is no wifi, tv or phone and that the bikes are to be shared between the 4 cottages
Location: The beach at Hoopers Bay is spectacular, there are no other activities within walking distance
The pictures looked much nicer than the actual apartment. The bed in the main bedroom was awful, we had to sleep in the room with the two twin beds. There was no wifi or telephone or TV despite advertised that we will have these amenities. The appliances were old, the kitchenware was old and shabby, there were stains on the cutlery and appliances, the fridge leaked inside. The route to the beach is not obvious but it is a spectacular beach only a 5 min walk away. It was difficult to get through to someone to find out which villa we were staying in, no information on arrival was provided. The activity gadgets and equipment is very old and rusting. There are only 2 bikes for the 4 cottages and these two bikes are ancient and keep getting punctures. There is not much entertainment available for the evenings and without any telephone, wifi or TV it feels very eery as you are in the middle of nowhere. You have to use your cellphone to contact taxi's and tours etc which will end up costing a lot.

Private beach

Posted 21 Dec 2013 on Hotels
The cottage was spacious with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The kitchen was functional, clean but pots and pans were decrepit and not very appetizing. You need a rental car to reach the only two or three stores on the island. The stores carry all necessities but there is no such thing as an American supermarket. Georgetown is a little village with one food store and a bank and the odd boutique and cafe. Restaurants serve good basic fish dishes at very high prices, but the owners are usually very lovable. All this said, the place had a lot of charm for someone looking for authenticity and pristine beaches. The very best thing about our cottage was the private path to the beach, where we were OWNED Hoopers Bay with it's white sand and azure water!

Spot in the Sun

Posted 31 Mar 2010
Hoopers Bay Villa is not in G.town, but on the outskirts so a car is needed to get to most. There is a beahc that you can walk to, about 5mins. There is a grocery store and liquor store that is 5-10 min. walk. The liquor stores are seperate from the grocery. The villa itself is among 3 others. They were nice to have a front porch & back porch. The bed, queen size, squeeks when ever either party moves so that was annoying. Do not drink the water from tap, buy @ store, gallons are sold. The villa overall is fine, outdoor shower too. Bill, caretaker, is a wealth of knowledge. He lives a few houses up. There are two dogs that hang out there, Emmy & Lou. Take care of them as they are great and went to the beach withus whenever we walked down. They are also good watch dogs. We did not lock our door @ night as the crime rate isnull.

Dream vacation! Can't wait to return!

Posted 2 Mar 2010
This is the 1st time for me visiting Exuma and I tell you the Island itself took my breath away. My husband and I came here for our 15th wedding anniversary and it was his suggestion to visit here. He use to come with his family for about 7 years until he was in college and it left a lasting impression. The cottage was exactly like it looked in the pictures, plenty of hot water and extras I didn't expect to find. They provided beach towels, coffee, tea, cocoa, toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, dish & dish washer detergent. Usually when you stay at a rental, those things are at your own expense. When we contacted them to prearrange a pick up, they offered suggestions that helped make our trip more enjoyable. They told us we could save money by bringing our own meats etc. and offered to help in finding us a car rental. The only reason I gave a 4 for comfort level is that the bed was very noisy, and I believe it was because of the mattress protector they had on it, which was understandable. There is a liquor store and grocery store within walking distance and I was told fresh deliveries come in on Tuesday. Everyone was so friendly. I recommend this island and Hooper's Bay Villa to stay if your are someone who likes to be away from the crowds and touristy stuff, but are still close enough to the town to enjoy fishing, boating, diving, snorkling & nightly entertainment.
